Who Will Win The Champions League This Season, Do Liverpool And Manchester City Stand A Chance?

The UEFA Champions league round of 16 fixtures are done and the results are out, with the entire Twitterati is going gaga over the way that things have played out. For some teams going into the next round was a cakewalk, after the recent results that they did produce, while for others, there was a lot of pondering and strategizing before the actual game to ensure that they kept their hopes alive.

So, here at “Beyond the Posts”  we take a look at the results of these round of 16 fixtures and see the potential teams that would make it through to the finals of the competition and actually win it.

1. Juventus vs Tottenham:

It was a close encounter between the two teams, with the Serie A champs winning the game at White Hart Lane 2-1 to win the overall tie and go through to the next round of the competition.

Winner: Juventus

2. Basel vs Manchester City:

Pep Guardiola and his team did not have any problem to see this match through. Considering the form they are in right now, Basel had no chance to go through to the next round and it was proven right.

Winner: Manchester City

3. Porto vs Liverpool:

Though, it was expected to be a close tie, it was nothing nothing like it. The Reds were the clear winners in the tie and they dominated the match, which showcased that they are strong contenders to win the Champions League as well.

Winner: Liverpool

4. Sevilla vs Manchester United:

Sevilla knocked out Jose Mourinho’s side and broke the so called dreams of the club from the “Theatre of Dreams”. This was a total shock, as most of the fans around the globe would have expected that the Red Devils would do better.

Winner: Manchester United.

5. Real Madrid vs PSG:

The Champions of Europe kept their hopes alive and they kept pushing for yet another title, the one that they have been winning twice in two consecutive seasons and will not want to go down without a fight.

Winner: Real Madrid

6. Shakhtar Donetsk vs AS Roma:

It was the Romans that went through to the next round, knocking out their opposition in a close encounter, merely on away goals. They will want to perform better in the days to come, if they wish to have any hopes of winning something this term.

Winner: AS Roma

7. Chelsea vs Barcelona:

It was the Lionel Messi show all the way, as the La Liga giants beat the west London side comfortably, after an initial 1-1 draw at the Bridge. They are one of the favourites to win the title this time around, though it will not be an easy task.

Winner: Barcelona

8. Bayern vs Besiktas:

Bayern Munich were few of the teams who enjoyed an easy win in their fixture. They were expected to win in this encounter and they easily did, going through to the next quarter finals of the competition.

Now, Barcelona face off against Roma, while Sevilla meet Bayern. On the other hand, Juventus face off against Real Madrid and Liverpool take on Manchester City.

Barcelona and Bayern should have comparatively easier fixtures in the upcoming round, while Real Madrid and Manchester City could be the other winners from the fixtures, unless Juventus and Liverpool have something to say about it.

They could both be fighting for a place in the next round and if an upset does happen, things could totally change. However, it seems that the Catalan giants are the favourites to win the title this term, with City probably the runner up, losing to Barca in the finals.

However, football is unpredictable and anything can happen on the day of the games.
