The Red Devils are keen on bringing in a new wing-back in the summer to try and fight for the Premier League next season. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has identified Tottenham ace defender Danny Rose to fill bolster his squad to win big trophies this season.
Manchester United lost the Premier League to fierce rivals Manchester City a few weeks ago which has ensured the other clubs in the mix need to step up in order to catch Pep Guardiola’s side next season. United fell way short despite being in 2nd position on the table as City comfortably won the league with five games remaining in the campaign. This has urged Jose Mourinho to fix up his wing-back problems as quickly as possible when the summer window opens up.
Despite Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia doing far more than a reasonable job in the full backs position, the duo aren’t natural defenders and have struggled at times to deal with the best of attacks. Young and Valencia used to play in the attacking wing roles and have transformed into defenders for the better of the team. The pair of United attackers-turned wingbacks are now 32 years old and Mourinho will have to think of a long-term prospect at the club for the future.
Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, and Luke Shaw have been unable to impress their boss and are likely to depart Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. This sum of money will be used to lure in Danny Rose from Tottenham, who Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is willing to offer at a fee close to what former Spurs right-back Kyle Walker left for last summer. Walker joined Manchester City for a fee of around £50m and aided them to the Premier League and Rose is also valued to be around £53m.
The Englishman has spent a decade at Tottenham since joining back from Leeds United back in 2007 and has been incredible for the North London giants ever since but has struggled to make his way back into the first team squad because of his injury concerns over the past two seasons. Even though Rose was fit for the FA Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur, the 27-year-old was left out by manager Mauricio Pochettino which meant it would be another trophyless season for the North London side. But with Tottenham unable to offer him game time and any trophies, Rose could look to move away from Spurs.
And having identified Spurs left-back Danny Rose as the best wing back in the country, Mourinho wants to splash the desired transfer fees to acquire him. Rose is a strong, versatile left-back who is very composed on the ball. He is quick and can track back and defend extremely well, his pace also helps him in attacking positions where he can deliver some really good crosses in the final third of the pitch. I feel that Rose would be a great addition in the Jose Mourinho” Manchester United side.
