Breaking: Serie A Winger Is Top Chelsea Target, Will Blues Get Their Man?

The Blues have shown an interest in signing Juventus left-back Kwadwo Asamoah in the summer to assure of their win-back positions. Chelsea is not happy with their first team squad and is keen on revamping some players in order to push for a successful campaign next year.

Chelsea has had a rather underwhelming campaign so far and sits fifth in the Premier League unlikely to finish in the top 4 as Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are quite assured to take up the third and fourth place. Chelsea was also dumped out of the League Cup in the semi-finals against local London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea faced humiliation against Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16 over the two legs of the elite competition. Their only hope of silverware this season is an FA Cup final against Manchester United later this month. And Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly a dead man walking who could receive the sack if he wins any more trophies or not.

But Chelsea has identified that the club is in dire need of solid defenders as the current ones haven’t done their jobs too well as of yet. Despite wing-backs Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso providing massive support in attack, they have not done a good enough job while tracking back to defend.  And the wing-back duo has come under heavy scrutiny this season as Conte has not been able to secure backup options as well in the transfer window.  Chelsea signed a bunch of midfielders who did not make a mark on the squad but their defense has still been the major cause of concern since club legend John Terry left the club for Aston Villa last summer.

Italian right-back Davide Zappacosta was signed by Chelsea in the summer transfer window but hasn’t managed to win the hearts of the Chelsea faithful leaving the club in need of re-enforcements. This is mainly one of the reasons why Chelsea are in the hunt to sign Juventus left-back Kwadwo Asamoah in the summer transfer window. Asamoah is a signing that would provide a strong second choice at left-back for the Spaniard Marcos Alonso and would ease a bit of pressure off the 27-year-old.

Asamoah has featured on and off for Juventus in the Serie A this season as the Old Lady has preferred to use Brazilian Alex Sandro and Colombian Juan Cuadrado on a more consistent basis. The Ghanaians contract expires at the end of the summer in June and will be a free agent as Juventus may not want to keep hold of him anymore.

Asamoah is versatile as he can play in left-back or in a defensive and attacking midfield, he is a very good passer of the ball and is strong in defense. However, due to his small frame, he is not too much of a strong point in the air. He has won five Serie A titles and played under Conte as well. But I guess he would be preferred after Alonso as the Spaniard has made the left-back spot his own.
