Three Things That Germany Needs To Change Immediately If They Wish To Retain Their Title

Germany have faced a shocking defeat against Mexico in their first group stage match. But, it can probably a good reality check for the Germans as they can make a comeback from this situation in the later stage of the World Cup. Germany coach Joachim Low has to make certain changes in this Germany side to give them a certain chance for qualifying in the knockout stage of the tournament and perform well from there on. Here are the three things Joachim Low has to change in the next match :

1. Marc-André ter Stegen In Place Of Manuel Neuer :

Manuel Neuer might have played a big role in Germany’s World Cup triumph in 2014. But we have to remember that he has missed a whole season for Bayern Munich with an injury. It is not possible for a player to maintain the same form after coming back from such a big injury. In the previous match Manuel Neuer was beaten by Mexico’s Hirving Lozano in the first post. It was a basic mistake for a Goalkeeper not to guard the first post of his side. This type of mistake occurs when you are out of the field for a very long time. On the other hand,  Marc-André ter Stegen has been in good form and has a good season with Barcelona in the previous season. He was also the first choice Goalkeeper of Germany in the absence of Manuel Neuer. In the World Cup Qualifiers he has performed well for the Germans. So, giving Marc-André ter Stegen a chance in the next match ahead of Manuel Neuer.

2. Marco Reus And Brandt Should Start From The Beginning :

Marco Reus and Brandt should get a chance in the starting line up of Germany ahead of Draxler and Ozil respectively. Draxler was not regular for Paris Saint Germain in the previous season. Joachim Low has preferred Draxler over Marco Reus in the match against Mexico. Draxler has led the young German side to win the Confederations Cup in the previous year. So, it was quite natural for Joachim Low to choose Draxler over Marco Reus. On the other hand, Brandt should be there too in the starting line up as we have seen Germany creating most of the chances in the match against Mexico after Brandt has come in. The young German can generate the pace that is much needed for them.

3. Timo Werner Is Too Much Inexperienced To Start For Germany :

The young German forward has been chosen over Bayern Munich centre forward Sandro Wagner in the World Cup squad of Germany. But Werner has failed to prove his potential in the match against Mexico as he is too much inexperienced in this big stage. On the other hand, Germany have an experienced forward in the form of Mario Gomez who has played for Germany in the previous World Cup too. Thomas Muller could also be used as a false nine to strengthen the midfield more for the Germans. Joachim Low has to change certain things before the next match to get back on track as quickly as possible.
