The former champions of England have been once again urged to sell Alvaro Morata in the January transfer window, after the Spanish international failed to come on and make an impact in the game against West Ham. The Blues ended the match 0-0, after a lacklustre performance up front away from home, which saw neither team able to finish off their chances, though the visitors had some really good chances to score.
The ex Real Madrid star is currently going through a goal-drought at present and has failed to perform for the Blues, due to which he has been subjected to a lot of criticism in the recent months. Despite that, he has failed to really pull up his socks and perform, as Olivier Giroud has taken his place in the starting eleven.
However, with the Frenchman not having the best of times in front of goal himself, Sarri brought on Morata to provide him with a goal during the game against the Hammers. Despite that, though the striker did get a few chances, he just failed to put the ball into the back of the net and get that winning goal for his team.
This did not please the visiting fans at the Olympic Stadium and the ones watching at home, as the player that cost the west London side more than £70m, once again failed to live up to expectations.
After a really positive start to life in England, the attacker picked up an injury and has not been able to recover since then. He is going through a goal-drought of sorts, though he did manage to score against Arsenal, back in August. The ups and downs in his overall form are too much for the team’s liking and it is costing them big time.
Due to this, it has been suggested quite a few times that the Londoners consider selling him, which they did back in the summer transfer window. However, he still stayed and the Italian manager decided that the pairing of Morata and Giroud would help him get through his debut season at the Bridge.
However, it seems that things are just not working out for Chelsea now, who might be forced into selling Morata in the New Year and could be looking at alternatives to bring in, to take his place.
One such name has been Fulham’s Mitrovic, who once again netted for his team against Watford in a 1-1 draw at the Cottage. The player has been in superb form this term and just can’t stop scoring, due to which he has caught the attention of a host of clubs including the Blues.
There is no doubt that Morata is highly talented, though he has unable to replicate the form that he showcased on his move to London. If somehow the striker can get back to his best form, the problem that the English giants have will be solved and they will not need to let go of him.
It will be interesting to see whether that actually happens or not, with the fans not seeming too patient with their star striker.
