According to recent reports, Manchester United are eyeing to make a move for the Swedish National side’s captain Andreas Granqvist in the winter transfer window. Manchester United are clearly having a crisis in the central defense and it is now more clear when, the manager of the Red Devils has opted to play Scott McTominay as the centre back along with Victor Lindelof.

Jose Mourinho has clearly suggested to get an experienced centre-back in the summer transfer window of 2018-19 season. But the club management have failed to make any move possible in this summer. The negotiations were on with the Belgian centre-back of Tottenham Hotspur, Toby Alderweireld. No move has been finalized as both the sides could n ot agree with the transfer fee of the player. The likes of former Barcelona’s centre-back Yerry Mina was also in the shortlist of Jose Mourinho. But another Premier League club Everton have sealed the deal on the deadline day. Therefore the Red Devils have not been able to make an addition in the central defense.

Manchester United have five centre backs in their squad right now. Two of them, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are injured right in this moment. Phil Jones is certainly ageing and the time has come for for the club management of the Red Devils to think of a proper replacement of him. But now at this point of time, the Red Devils need a short term option in this upcoming winter transfer window. Manchester United are still in Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. They will have to play two matches in a week and the players will certainly get tired after some matches. So, the other options left with them will be very less. The manager is not having a good relationship with Eric Bailly and the pair of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof are tired with playing so many matches in every week.

So, the Swedish National side’s captain Andreas Granqvist might be a very good short option for Manchester United in this situation. The 33 year old centre back of Sweden has really helped his National side to go to the quarter final of the biggest event of football few days ago in Russia. Granqvist can also take good penalties which might be needed for the Red Devils in this season as Paul Pogba is not having great time in taking penalties this season for Manchester United.
