It has been a kind of resurgence for the old Arsenal after Spanish tactician Unai Emery have taken the reigns. The Gunners are certainly gunning the way they would like to, but things are not great at the Emirates. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is reportedly on the move and being a stalwart in Arsenal midfield for so long Ramsey has been a fan favourite and someone the club and the fans could rely upon. But seems like the Welshman has taken a decision and which indicates Emery to look elsewhere to find a replacement.
Among the top targets lie Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera. Although Herrera does not finds the back of the net as often as Ramsey does but he is a leader in himself and is someone who can orchestrate the midfield. With Guendouzi and Torreira already blossoming in the midfield, a new trio including Herrera will be interesting to see.
However, the battle to secure Herrera’s signature is for real as teams like Dortmund, Inter, Roma, Liverpool and even Barcelona have considered signing the Mexican midfield maestro. So it will be quite a task for Unai Emery to bring him to North London.
The 28-year old star has made 200 appearances for FC Porto since joining them back in 2013 from childhood club CF Pachuca. The Mexican has gone on to win the Portuguese league and cup titles and has managed 70 caps for his country.
Herrera is a busy customer in the middle of the park and his reliability, consistency along with his experience can be a huge plus for Emery and if the deal materialises then he can be a huge asset for the Gunners’ boss. Although one may argue that having the like of Granit Xhaka, Alex Iwobi and Mohammed Elneny, the Gunners’ boss basically does not need to strengthen the squad.
If Aaron Ramsey leaves Arsenal which seems pretty certain then an acquisition like Hector Herrera will be a huge boost for the side. Gunners are currently sitting in 4th spot in the Premier League table and the fight for the league title will go down the wire and the Gunners are very much in contention, so a signing like this may amp up their chances a bit more.
Herrera who is a very experienced midfielder has a respectable goal tally to complement his defensive capabilities. The north London outfit will be needing such a player, if their key star Ramsey does indeed leave the club.
Emery’s team has recovered so far after a really poor start to the new league campaign and now they will be hoping that they can win some titles. However, it surely becomes quite tough to find a player who can replace a star who has been at the club for a decade.
So now time will tell if the deal materializes and whether it results in becoming a good acquisition for Arsenal or not. They will have quite a few options, though hopefully they end up making the right move which helps them in the long run.
