Chelsea Defender Set To Leave For West Ham, Should Sarri Let Him Leave?

According to the latest reports Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is set to leave the club in the January transfer window in order to get more game time with West Ham United looking to swoop in. The English defender has fallen further down the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri and could well be at the exit door at Stamford Bridge in the next couple of months.

Chelsea are currently the only top team in Europe that are yet to be beaten this season and Maurizo Sarri has engraved his philosophy into his new squad and the rewards are there for everyone to see. The whole team looks solid enough to push Liverpool and Manchester City for the title race as Chelsea currently sit in 2nd place on the Premier League joint top with the aforementioned sides eight games into the campaign. Chelsea also dumped the high flying Liverpool out of the League Cup which handed Jurgen Klopp’s team their first defeat of the season at Anfield earlier last month. The Blues defense looks quite strong after David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta have tightened up at the back from a poor previous season.  With the midfield and attack also delivering when called upon Chelsea are certainly on the up and up.

However, one player in the form of Gary Cahill has not found it all rosy at Chelsea over the past few seasons. The veteran 32-year-old defender was once at the heart of the Chelsea defense and arguably the best center-back in the country but off late has struggled to even get into the starting eleven. And it seems that his determined and hardworking way of playing football does not fit into Sarri’s style of play. With Cahill’s contract set to expire next summer, Chelsea could probably offload the former Bolton Wanderers man in the January transfer window itself as Cahill is also keen on moving away from Chelsea as soon as possible.

Reports claim that Cahill is prepared to listen to offers from other clubs in the winter transfer window and Chelsea’s local London rivals West Ham United are showing a keen interest in bringing the Chelsea defender to the London Stadium. Manuel Pellegrini’s men had a rather disastrous start to the Premier League but have much improved off late after victories over Manchester United and Everton and earned a crucial point against Chelsea as well. But just before the international break the Hammers suffered another blow after losing to Brighton and Hove Albion. Pellegrini has been given the backing of the West Ham board to purchase a star defender in the winter transfer window and most likely the prime candidate to join the club would be Gary Cahill. West Ham has kept just one clean sheet in their eight games and the defense needs a major leader who can command and organize the back line. The former England international would be an ideal option as he has played football at the top level for quite a while and his experience would come in handy.
