According to the latest reports, Unai Emery’s Arsenal is reportedly leading the race to sign AS Roma sensation Cengiz Under in the upcoming winter transfer window in order to bolster his attacking department. The Turkish international has impressed under AS Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco over the recent past which has highlighted Arsenal’s interest in him.
Arsenal is finally feeling the effects of some fresh air at the club after the departure of legendary manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields in the span of 22 years with Arsenal. But with Emery, Arsenal is sensing a change in pattern with the Spaniard laying down the rules and removing players that are surplus at the club.
Having let go of the unimportant players, Arsenal is moving back to where they were in their glory days of the recent past after a rather slow start to their campaign. The North London side has won nine games on the trot in all competitions and is grinding out the results when required with comprehensive wins as well. But Emery is aware that he needs to add more depth in his current Arsenal squad if they are to challenge for titles this term itself.
With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang up top, Arsenal boasts one of the strongest and deadliest attacking pairs of strikers in Europe and with Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in midfield; there are players who can provide passes that could penetrate the tightest of defenses. But with the injury woes that the Arsenal camp has had over the recent years, Emery is not keen on taking the risk of not having top quality players as a backup option. Therefore, Arsenal is looking to purchase Turkish superstar Cengiz Under in order to provide some force in attack for the Gunners in dynamism.
Arsenal is set to face competition from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the race to sign Under, as the struggling German champions want to re-invest in their aging squad to get back to being a dominant force in the European continent.
Cengiz is a quick and talented attacker who can fit anywhere in the attacking third of the pitch. He can play as a striker or a second striker or on either side of the flanks; he can also be utilized as a play-maker that can play through balls past stubborn defenses to unlock them. At just 21 years of age, Cengiz has the potential to become a world beater and Roma have already slapped a £52m price tag on his shoulders.
Cengiz has already bagged four goals in 15 appearances for his Turkish national side and would be a mouthwatering prospect for Arsenal if he plays alongside Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the attack. The only worry for Cengiz is the fact that he has not played in the Premier League and hasn’t had the experience to play in England after adapting to the Serie A.
