Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in signing Napoli star Piotr Zielinski in the upcoming winter transfer window in order to bolster their chances of winning the Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp is well aware that he needs strength in his squad’s depth to challenge in the FA Cup and Champions League in the upcoming run of fixtures.
Liverpool is currently enjoying a great start to the new Premier League campaign this season as they are in 2nd place on the table level on points with leaders Manchester City. Having won seven of their opening nine games, Liverpool is still unbeaten in the English League and are genuine title contenders as they drew their game at Stamford Bridge and held Manchester City at Anfield in a space of a week. But Klopp knows that these are the games that Liverpool needs to win in order to prove that they are totally prepared to win the Premiership.
The win over Huddersfield Town was scrappy to say the least with the Terriers missing a few golden chances to capitalize on the mistakes made by Liverpool. Just a Mohamed Salah goal was enough to secure the three points but there were a few casualties in the game. Club captain Jordan Henderson was subbed off at half-time as he complained of a hamstring issue but the Englishman has not looked his usual best this season and has come under scrutiny and abuse from his own set of Liverpool fans.
Guinea star midfielder Naby Keita has also been injured for a couple of weeks as he limped off during international duty. Senegalese star Sadio Mane suffered a broken thumb while training with his national side. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is set to miss the entire season while Adam Lallana just returned to first-team action but couldn’t last the ninety minutes. Even James Milner is now 33 years old and he is used sparingly by manager Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool fans will remember how last season’s injuries affected them in the final few stages of the Champions League and Klopp knows that he needs to increase the number of players in his squad to go as far as possible to win trophies. Therefore Klopp has been looking to find a suitable player in midfield and has been keeping tabs on Piotr Zielinski. Klopp got a close-up view of the Polish international when Liverpool lost to Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli a few weeks ago in the Stadio San Paolo in their Champions League encounter.
Zielinski has already netted twice in eight appearances for Napoli in the current campaign and is attracting interest from several other European suitors because of his technical ability and dynamism. Zielinski can play anywhere in midfield or in the front line but Ancelotti is not willing to part ways with his prized asset anytime soon and has doubled his release clause to €65 million (£57 million). But with injuries on the rise, should Klopp splash out this transfer fees in order to sign the 24-year-old?
