The Spanish International had been the best among the Devils of Old Trafford in the last season. David De Gea has been terrific in front of the bars in the last season and almost single-handedly saved many days for Manchester United. Speculations raised when the Spaniard was being linked to a high rated transfer to Real Madrid last time. Though the transfer market gets silent when the European Champions bought the World Cup Golden Gloves winner Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper joined the Madrid club this summer as the support of the Costa Rica international Keylor Navas. It was David De Gea who was primarily targeted by the Spanish giants but ended up with the Belgian in the bench. Moreover, the Spaniard may go no way further as Manchester United is all set to give an extension to their front-line keeper.
According to the sources, the Old Trafford club have triggered a one-year extension for their goalkeeper David de Gea’s contract to keep him at the club until the end of the 2019/2020 season.
The Spaniard is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and it is thought to be a contract worth around £275,000-a-week on the table though De Gea has been hesitant to commit his long-term future to Man United.
The keeper signed his current contract back in September 2015 when the deadline day transfer broke down to Real Madrid. However, that deal is coming to its end and there are rumours that De Gea has concerns regarding his future in United.
Manchester United have not won any one of the two major titles that they compete for which are the UEFA Champions League and Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. The Spaniard experienced one title under Ferguson and has since lifted the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup under the Scot’s successors.
It is reported that De Gea also wants to be paid the same as United’s other key figures superstars. Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez both earn far more than De Gea does currently and this has been one of the major issues why he doesn’t see his future in England. The Spaniard wants his pay rise to take him to the levels of the two outfield players. Though Manchester United are keen to tie him down to a new contract, particularly in the situation where top shot-stoppers are hard to come by. However, at this moment, things are not simply that way. United are seven points behind Chelsea and nine from Liverpool and Manchester City at the Premier League summit. Though in reality, that number could go significantly greater.
De Gea is popular at Old Trafford and especially close to Ander Herrera and Juan Mata. Though Old Trafford chiefs do have one issue with the Spain international. Sources claim that they feel frustrated that he refuses to do media duties, unlike many of his team-mates. However, it can be his way of dodging questions about his future. Being one of the best keepers of recent times, he is always the subject of transfer talk. Though the time isn’t going too well for the Spaniard as United has eaten 17 goals so far in the Premier League and the Spanish National team is also receiving showering goals. The United star was mocked recently by England hero Terry Butcher after England scored three first-half goals against Spain in the international break. He mocked him by saying that it’s a treat and raining goals. He also said that he doesn’t think that David de Gea has had a save to make but he’s picked it out of the net three times. England were ruthless in the fight against the Spanish team and it was a sheer humiliation for one of the best keepers of this time.
