According to the latest reports, Premier League side Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign Olympique Lyonnais superstar Memphis Depay in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to replace Sadio Mane if he leaves the club in the summer. The Senegalese has been sensational for the Reds but has also caught the attention of plenty of European clubs who are looking to sign him up.

Liverpool are currently sitting pretty at the summit of the Premier League table at the moment as they edge second-placed Manchester City by two points. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City still have a game in hand but Liverpool have done exceedingly well to still remain in the hunt for the Premier League title at this stage of the season. Guardiola’s Manchester City stormed their way to the Premier League title last season, breaking multiple records in the process and amassing a staggering 100 points as well. But Liverpool are doing everything they can this season to ensure that the title race goes right down to the wire.

One player who has massively stepped up for Liverpool since the turn of the year has been Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane. The 26-year-old has been sublime for the Reds, keeping them in the title race and also helping them secure a quarter-final spot in the Champions League after scoring a brace against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16. Mane’s form has peaked at the right time for Liverpool but it has also alerted clubs of his ability.

La Liga giants Real Madrid have endured a horrid season with nothing to play for anymore and have reappointed Zinedine Zidane to guide the club forward. However, the French boss wants to make signings in the summer and has reportedly prioritized Mane as the top option on his transfer target list.

However, with Mane attracting interest from a host of rival European clubs, Liverpool are also preparing to sign a replacement for the star forward. If they are unable to win silverware this season, Mane will look to make a move to the Santiago Bernabeu and play for Los Blancos. In a shocking report, Liverpool are considering former Manchester United flop Memphis Depay as a replacement for Mane.

Depay endured a horror few months with Manchester United at Old Trafford and eventually made the move to Lyon to revitalize his career. He has done that in some style in the French league after improving his form and finding his mojo. This season, Depay has scored 8 goals and notched up 14 assists as well for the Ligue 1 side, proving all his doubters wrong.  The Dutchman wants to prove himself in the English Premier League and wants to return to a top club in England.

Liverpool may be keen to bring the 25-year-old winger to Anfield in the summer transfer window if Mane leaves. The Reds will have to shell out around £26m to bring Depay to Liverpool, a deal that could take place but also hamper his career for joining Manchester United’s fierce rivals.
