According to reports, Liverpool and Manchester United have started their contract talks with Ousmane Dembele’s agents.
According to famous Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool and Manchester United have started to talk to Ousmane Dembele’s agents. Other Premier League Clubs have also shown their interest. Newcastle United is also interested in the Barcelona contract rebel.
Ousmane Dembele has failed to live up to the great anticipation that surrounded him when he joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund four years ago. The Frenchman heralded as a probable long-term replacement to Neymar, arrived at Camp Nou amid much enthusiasm and hype.
However, injuries have severely hampered his progress, and Dembele has spent most of his time with Barcelona on the bench. In 118 games for the Blaugrana, the 24-year-old has 30 goals and 21 assists. Barcelona, on the other hand, seems to still value Dembele, as seen by their hurry to sign him to a new deal.
However, the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion looks to be extending his contract with Barcelona, putting the Catalan giants in jeopardy. A scenario like this has sparked the curiosity of clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, among others.
While Liverpool has been closely associated with Dembele on multiple occasions, the latest rumours claim that the Reds have given up on the 24-year-old. So it is a surprise that Liverpool has made contact with his agent, yet Dembele would be a feasible target for the Reds if they do make a bid for him, as he would bring much-needed depth in attack.
Manchester United’s interest, on the other hand, comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the club’s plethora of excellent offensive players with the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer. Nonetheless, the Red Devils are still on the lookout for the Barcelona contract rebel and have made contact with his agency.
In addition to Liverpool and Manchester United, Newcastle United are said to be interested in Dembele, with the club willing to give him a lucrative deal. What remains to be seen is if Dembele ends his contract with Barcelona by joining a Premier League team or whether he remains at Camp Nou.
What is in store in Ousmane Dembele’s future?
Xavi is largely likely to be named as Ronald Koeman’s replacement at Barcelona in the coming days. But what does this indicate for Newcastle’s rumoured interest in Ousmane Dembele?
According to the Sun, Newcastle has already started conversations with Dembele’s agents in preparation for a lucrative transfer to St. James’ Park this summer.
The 24-year-old is expected to become a free agent this summer after little progress on a contract extension at the Nou Camp. Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017 for a reported sum of €100 million from Borussia Dortmund, although he will be free to sign a pre-contract deal in January.
Xavi’s approaching arrival may signal the end of Newcastle’s pursuit of the winger, but based on recent contract negotiations, that does not seem to be the case.
The Barcelona icon is said to be interested in acquiring Raheem Sterling in January, paving the path for Dembele to depart the club.
