Virat Kohli Guides Rahul Chahar To Dismiss Glenn Maxwell In Warm-Up Match

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli Gives Great Advice!! India began their 2021 T20 World Cup campaign with two wins in a row, beating both England and Australia in warm-up matches ahead of the Super12, where the Virat Kohli-led team will begin their trip against Pakistan on October 24, followed by a match against New Zealand on October 31.

After chasing down 189 with an over to spare against England in the first warm-up, India, spearheaded by Rohit Sharma, smashed the 153-run mark against Australia on October 20, winning by eight wickets and more than two overs.

R Ashwin’s dismissal of both David Warner and Mitchell Marsh on successive deliveries harmed Australia’s batting-first approach. Australia was quickly reduced to 11/3 when Ravindra Jadeja trapped Aaron Finch lbw, but a 61-run partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith got them back on track.

Brilliant advice from Virat Kohli that helped Chahar get the Australian all-rounder out

Following the early strikes by Ashwin and Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, who had a costly performance against England, opened his account with the coveted scalp of Maxwell for 37. What drew notice, though, was the sequence of events before Chahar’s clean up of Maxwell, who had reverse swept the bowler on the first ball of the 12th over.

Kohli was spotted immediately after having a chat with Chahar, who undone Maxwell with a googly just three balls later. ICC stated on its Instagram page, sharing a video of the sequence of events, “Maxwell’s lovely reverse-sweep. Kohli’s advice to Chahar. Chahar fires back with a wicket. There is a lot to appreciate in this passage of play.”

Below is the video of the whole incident and how the combination of Virat Kohli and Rahul Chahar got the Aussie batsman out-

ABOUT THE MATCH:

India rested their key pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah in this warm-up match. Rohit Sharma led the team, with Kohli not taking part with the bat. He did, however, take to the field with the team, while Australia set a target. He also delivered a couple of overs for 12 runs, which was rather unusual to see.

During the chase, skipper Rohit Sharma retired after his 41-ball 60. On the other hand, brisk knocks from KL Rahul (39 off 31) and Surkyakumar Yadav (unbeaten 38 off 27) before Hardik Pandya’s finishing touches (14 off 8) helped India ease past the target convincingly. The main draw of the tournament commences on October 23.

Rahul Chahar was able to slow down the run rate in the middle overs. He also picked up a wicket after some excellent guidance from the captain. But he has to do a lot more to be chosen above Ashwin and Jadeja. However, one thing was confirmed from the game, that all-rounder Hardik Pandya will not be bowling for sure.

Virat Kohli pulled did a great job on the day, though he was off the field most of the time. That would have delighted him, though he wasn’t the actual captain in this game. It will be interesting to see which players he picks for the first match against Pakistan now.
