Big Bash

A match with stakes as high as setting afoot to the finals of the Big Bash League (BBL) season 10, even big names – here Mitchell Marsh– can lose their cool. Playing against Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier game, Perth Scorchers’ skipper Marsh was seen abusing the umpire after being wrongly declared out.

Here Is The Video Of Marsh Getting Frustrated In The Qualifier Of BBL 2020-21

The English all-rounder Ben Stokes took on to Twitter to emphasize on the importance of the Decision Review System, which is typically not in the BBL dictionary. In the 13th over of the first innings, as Perth Scorchers went slogging, spinner Steve O’Keefe was called upon to bowl.

The bowler apparently bowled a wide to which Marsh attempted a down the leg swing and he missed. However, there was no edge involved and the umpire should’ve called it a wide. However, the umpire signalled out. Mitchell Marsh couldn’t keep his cool. He left the pitch abusing and blistering.

“F**king sh*t umpiring,” he shouted and left the field.

What Was The Reaction Of Ben Stokes And Stuart Broad To This Poor Umpiring Call?

English all-rounder Ben Stokes – who is currently quarantining in Chennai ahead of England’s four-match Test series against Virat Kohli’s India – tweeted about the desperate need of DRS in the BBL.

“DRS is not there to make the umpires look bad Why on earth are not all competitions using it, it is frustrating to watch something like that happen when it can so easily be fixed.”

There have been numerous incidents this season where the Big Bash League has suffered
unfair decisions and no amendment owing to the absence of DRS.

What Were The Reactions To Ben Stokes Comments On This Poor Call In The BBL

A user replied on Ben Stokes’ Tweet saying, “Exactly. Like no one should ever dare to question Kumar Dharmasena and his decisions in the 2019 World Cup final. Sadly it could not be fixed easily…”

One more reminded Stokes of the time Kumar Dharmasena’s decision of awarding England match-winning six runs off an overthrow. That was back in the 2019 World Cup finals, as The Three Lions won their first-ever title.

He sarcastically wrote, “As much as I agree that DRS should be available in all forms of cricket now, that reaction from Mitchell Marsh was disappointing and not a good look. If he was swearing at the umpire, not something youngsters need to see. Sometimes you have to take the bad with good decisions.”

“Could easily kill a game not been able to use DRS. Clear daylight between bat and ball where a review would have helped the umpire to correct the decision. He heard something so can’t blame him giving it on that but DRS would just help keep the game right!!”
