What Changes In The Team Went Right For Manchester United- Talking Points Of The Match

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United responded to their defeat during the week with a comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield this afternoon. They were frustrated in the first half, but Romelu Lukaku broke through in the 55th minute. Alexis Sanchez managed to get his first goal for the Manchester based club after seeing his penalty saved by Jonas Lossl, with the Chilean pouncing on the rebound to slide the ball home. Huddersfield had now lost their last five Premier League matches on the bounce and had now dropped into the relegation zone. David Wagner needed to find a solution soon to stop their slide.

First take a glance how they have shaped up for the match :

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1):

David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic; Juan Mata. Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez; Romelu Lukaku.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN (3-4-3):

Jonas Lossl; Mathias Jorgensen, Christopher Schindler, Terence Kongolo; Tommy Smith, Philip Billing, Jonathan Hogg, Florent Hadergjonaj; Rajiv van La Parra, Laurent Depoitre, Collin Quaner.

Here are the talking points of the match :

1. Goalless First Half At Old Trafford :

It was goalless at the break between Manchester United and Huddersfield at Old Trafford. United have had a couple of chances to open the scoring, but Jonas Lossl had been on form to deny Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard. The visitors had not offered a great deal at the other end of the pitch, although they had kept Jose Mourinho’s side honest enough at the back. The Portuguese would not be thrilled by his side’s performance in the first half.

2. Lukaku Fired Home For United :

United take the lead as their pressure finally tells on the visitors. Sanchez and Matic battled well to win back possession on the edge of the Huddersfield box. The ball was sent wide to Mata, who placed a perfect cross to the near post for Lukaku to attack. The Belgian edged in front of Schindler and struck his effort on the volley into the bottom corner.

3. Sanchez Sealed The Win For The Team :

Sanchez was tripped in the box by Hefele and the referee points the spot. Sanchez missed from the spot as his tame strike was saved by Lossl, but it all ended well for the forward. Lossl guessed correctly and made the stop, but fortune was not on his side as Sanchez topped home the rebound. Sanchez opened his United account. The Chilean missed from 12 yards as Lossl got down to make the save. However, the rebound fell perfectly for Sanchez and he slided the ball into the net from close range.

4. Sanchez and Pogba’s Combination Is Going Well For United :

United found space with ease in the final third and Pogba released Sanchez. However, on this occasion, the Chilean could not come up with the magic needed to find the net as his low cross was cleared away by Jorgensen. United are guilty of overplaying the ball as Rashford surged down the left inside channel. He cut the ball back for Martial, who in turn found Sanchez, but the Huddersfield defence close the gaps before he could strike at goal.
