Match Report: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham; How The Reds Completed A Great Comeback At Anfield

Liverpool collected three important points from the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at Anfield. The Reds stayed at the top of the table for another week with 28 points from 10 matches so far. Manchester City is in second place in the League table with 22 points followed by Leicester City and Chelsea who are at 20 points at this moment. However, there is still a long way to go for Liverpool to clinch the Premier League title this season.

The match started in an unexpected way as Tottenham Hotspur were ahead in the first minute of the match. Son Heung Min took a shot from outside of the match. The shot was deflected and hit the post. The rebound came back directly towards Harry Kane who was completely in an unmarked position. The star English centre forward headed the ball towards the goal quite easily.

After conceding the goal in the first minute of the match, Liverpool was desperate to equalise in the first half. They were creating lots of chances; but the Goalkeeper of Tottenham Hotspur, Paulo Gazzaniga was in great form under the bars. He saved Tottenham Hotspur multiple times in the first half of the match. Mohamed Salah’s shot from outside the box was saved while the rebound came directly towards Roberto Firmino.

Roberto Firmino’s shot was also saved by Paulo Gazzaniga with his brilliant reflex action. Trent Alexander Arnold’s shot from outside the shot was also saved. Virgil Van Dijk’s brilliant header from Trent Alexander Arnold’s corner was fisted out by the young goalkeeper of Tottenham Hotspur, Paulo Gazzaniga. So, we can certainly proclaim that Paulo Gazzaniga was the hero of the match for the away side in the first half of the match. Moussa Sissoko and Danny Rose were booked in the first half. The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Tottenham Hotspur.

At the beginning of the second half, Dejan Lovren was booked. However, Liverpool equalised the scoreline at the 52nd minute of the match as Jordan Henderson found the back of the net. Mauricio Pochetinno brought Tanguy Ndombele in place of Harry Winks after conceding the goal. Trent Alexander Arnold was shown a yellow card at the 64th minute for committing a foul. Tanguy Ndombele was also booked at the 72nd minute of the match. Three minutes later, Sadio Mane was fouled inside the penalty box and Liverpool were awarded a penalty.

Mohamed Salah took the penalty kick and converted successfully from the spot to hand an important lead to Liverpool at the 75th minute of the match. James Milner was brought in place of Wijnaldum a few moments later while Lucas Moura was included in place of Serge Aurier for Tottenham Hotspur. Mohamed Salah picked up an injury and he had to be subbed off at the 85th minute of the match. Liverpool was able to hold on the lead for the rest of the game. The match ended with a scoreline of 2-1 in favour of Liverpool. Tottenham Hotspur went down to the 12th position in the League table after this defeat.
