WWE Survivor Series is just a couple of days away and fans are excited to see the event unfold and to see which brand comes on top. Raw and SmackDown have been going at each other for years now, but for the first time, NXT was thrown into the mix, which gave the much-needed boost to the pay-per-view. All the champions, except for the men’s division top champions, are set to collide against each other to get a point for their brand. WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar will face Rey Mysterio; Universel Champion, Bray Wyatt will face Daniel Bryan; and NXT champion, Adam Cole will face NXT TakeOver: WarGames’ triple threat match’s winner.
It has been reported that initially there were plans to do a triple threat match between Brock Lesnar, Bray Wyatt, and Adam Cole, but the management decided to have all the three champions defend their titles instead, which seems to be a better option as Adam Cole would have definitely taken the pin that matches no matter what, but now we wouldn’t be able to see Lesnar and The Fiend collide against each other.
Cagesideseats now has a potential result for the WWE and Univeral championship matches. They reported:
“There aren’t expected to be any title changes at Survivor Series, and both title programs will likely go all the way up to, and possibly through, Royal Rumble.”
If the reports are indeed true, then we might see Lesnar and Wyatt hold the belt at least till WrestleMania 36. It would make sense for The Fiend as he has just won the title on the back of huge controversy and it would be good to see him holding the company’s top championship for a long time after that forgetful WWE championship reign in 2017. With Lesnar though it might be a problem. Fans have been getting tired with Lesnar’s long championship reign due to his part-time status and all his storylines are always the same. So, we might have to go to another WrestleMania with Lesnar as the champion.
Brock will face Rey Mysterio on Sunday in a No Holds Barred match. After Mysterio attacked The Beast after his match against Cain Velasquez at Saudi Arabia’s Crown Jewel last month, Lesnar is looking to take revenge against him, but he comes up short every time. He even quit SmackDown to join Raw in order to get his hands on Mysterio. The build-up to this match has been brilliant and might be a slipper hit of the night.
After winning the Universal Championship, Bray Wyatt revealed the new design for the Universal Championship in an episode of Firefly Funhouse. He then attacked Daniel Bryan on next week’s episode of SmackDown to set up a match between them at Survivor Series.
WWE Survivor Series might not be a great pay-per-view on terms of storylines as it doesn’t affect anything beyond Sunday, but as a standalone pay-per-view, it is filled with dream matches. How else we would have seen Shayna Bazler wrestle Becky Lynch, or Roderick Strong go against wrestling’s biggest names like Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles in 2019?
