The Indian Cricket Team bagged the T20 series against New Zealand with a thrilling Super Over win on Wednesday. At one point of time, it seemed that the match was going out the hands of the Indian team. Kane Williamson batted brilliantly and scored 95 runs in just 48 balls. His knock was crucial for New Zealand to close this match. However, they could not go over the line because of a superb last over bowled by Mohammed Shami.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to field in this important match of the Series. India were ahead in this series by a margin of 2-0. In both occasions, they chased the score quite easily. So, the captain of New Zealand, Kane Williamson wished to try something different in this match. However, India got a good start as Rohit Sharma was on fire. New Zealand’s strike bowlers were expensive on Wednesday. Tim Southee conceded 39 runs in his four overs. Bennett was hammered away by Rohit Sharma in the powerplay. However, he took three crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube and Virat Kohli.
KL Rahul went in the pavilion with scoring 27 runs in 19 balls. After the fall of the first wicket, the management of team India sent Shivam Dube in the field. The bowlers of New Zealand used short balls against Shivam Dube and that strategy worked out quite well. The flow of Indian innings were completely destroyed after few dot balls in the middle. Rohit Sharma tried to be desperate and lost his wicket. Virat Kohli scored 38 runs in 27 balls. However, he was also not able to finish the innings for India. Manish Pandey and Ravindra Jadeja’s crucial knocks at the end helped India to reach a total of 179 with the loss of 5 wickets.
After coming into bat, New Zealand also started to show their glimpses. Martin Guptill scored 31 runs in 21 balls. However, Collin Munro was not looking in good touch. Shardul Thakur sent Martin Guptill in the pavilion and Collin Munro followed him soon. After that, the management of New Zealand sent Mitchell Santner ahead of Ross Taylor to tackle the left arm off-spin of Ravindra Jadeja. Chahal bowled Santner out to keep India in the match.
On the other hand, Kane Williamson was on fire with all guns blazing. Collin de Grandhomme could not stay there for a while as Shardul Thakur struck again for India. After that, it was the duty of the pair of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor to guide New Zealand home in this match. Kane Williamson threw his wicket at the crunch moment of the match when two runs were needed off four balls. Mohammed Shami took the wicket of Ross Taylor in the last ball of the match to take the match to a Super Over.
Virat Kohli gave the ball to Jasprit Bumrah who was not in form. He conceded 17 runs and things were looking impossible for India. Rohit Sharma hit back to back two sixes in last two balls to help India win the thriller encounter at the end. Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Man of Match for his brilliant knock.
