Royal Rumble is scheduled to take place on January 26, 2020, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. It will be the 33rd show under the Royal Rumble banner. Royal Rumble has always been one of the most exciting annual pay-per-view for the fans due to the thrill and suspense the show brings with itself. Irrespective of the build-up, the expectations from the Royal Rumble matches are always high.
This year, the rumour is that ten wrestlers are going to take part from Raw, SmackDown and NXT each. And, now it looks like the potential winners for both the Rumble matches have been revealed.
According to Tom Colohue, Roman Reigns and Shayna Baszler are the favourites to win their respective matches at Royal Rumble.
He said:
The current betting favourites, previously these were just favourites from management, to win the Royal Rumble, I mentioned it was Shayna Baszler and Roman Reigns, they are now the betting favourites on a lot of betting sites, and a lot of betting companies are taking less and less odds of the chance for Roman and Shayna winning. It is worth remembering, I believe the time was 2016 when Randy Orton won, the betting averages narrowed day by day to get closer and closer to Randy Orton, at that time you had Goldberg, Lesnar and The Undertaker in the Royal Rumble, so they were favourites the day before but Randy Orton was the betting favourite on the day. So it is very telling when the betting favourites start to move.
Even last year, Seth Rollins was the betting favourites to win the men’s Royal Rumble match.
Ever since returning after curing his Leukemia, Roman Reigns has been kept away from the heavyweight title picture. He was given many big spots in pay-per-views like tornado tag team match at Hell in a Cell, teaming up with The Undertaker at Extreme Rules or being the only survivor at Survivor Series, but he was kept as far away from Kofi Kingston or Bray Wyatt as possible.
This helped him in establishing a good relationship with the fans and it never felt like the management is shoving him in our faces like they did the last time.
It looks like he is ready to get back on top and that journey will commence at the Rumble with him winning the Royal Rumble and going on to face The Fiend at WrestleMania 36.
It is worth noting that Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer had reported last month that Cain Velasquez is scheduled to win the Royal Rumble match to go on to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, but looks like the plans have changed.
Shayan Baszler lost her NXT women’s championship against Rhea Ripley on an episode of NXT in December last year and has been absent from the TV ever since. It looks like she is scheduled to make a return in the Women’s Royal Rumble match and win it, to go on to challenge either Bayley or Becky Lynch at the show of the shows.
Apparently, Vince McMahon is a huge fan of Shayna Baszler and has been asking Triple H to send her to Raw and SmackDown for a while now. So, another promising star is about to be ruined by WWE’s Chairman.
