Ronda Rousey’s last appearance in WWE TV was at WrestleMania 35, where she headlined the event in a triple-threat match against Charlotte Flair and the eventual winner, Becky Lynch. During the match, she fractured her hand and was out of the programming. After that, she posted in her Instagram account that she is going on an ‘impregnation vacation’ and will be out of WWE for the foreseeable future. There was no real comment from the company and event Stephanie McMahon stayed mum on it.
There were rumours flying in the world of wrestling that she is going to return in the women’s Royal Rumble this year to win the match and challenge Becky Lynch for the Raw women’s championship at WrestleMania 36 to further their rivalry. But, she was nowhere to be seen and Charlotte Flair went on to win the match. Rousey’s WWE future is still in the air.
WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon is the latest to speak on the issue. During the WrestleMania 37 press conference in Inglewood, CA, she spoke with ESPN regarding the former Raw women’s champion future. Stephanie said that Ronda is excited to step back into the ring and will be back when the time is right.
In all seriousness, I hope so. I know that she is very excited about coming back. I think she has some things in her personal life that she wants to do. When the time is right, she will be back. I have no doubt about that.
Rousey made her WWE debut in January 2018, when she made a surprise appearance at that year’s Royal Rumble to point at WrestleMania 34 sign for an awkward number of times and close the show. She then made her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 in a mixed-gender tag team match along with Kurt Angle against the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a winning cause.
Ronda got a meteoric rise in the company as she challenged Nia Jax for the Raw women’s championship in her second-ever WWE match at Money in the Bank. She didn’t win the as Alexa Bliss interrupted their match to cash her Money in the Bank briefcase that she had won on the show. This started a rivalry between Alexa and Ronda that went on till SummerSlam, where Ronda defeated Alexa to win the Raw women’s championship in her third pay-per-view match.
During the Survivor Series that year, she started a long rivalry with Becky Lynch that defined her run in WWE. Both went back and forth in social media to keep their rivalry alive for months despite both being on different brands. As mentioned earlier, their rivalry concluded at WrestleMania 35, after which Ronda went away from WWE and Becky is still enjoying her run as the Raw women’s champion.
Whenever Ronda would eventually return, she has a rivalry waiting to be fought against The Man. Becky did beat her for the title, though it was a triple-threat match and she never got her rematch. Hopefully, the company can plan this angle out well, as it would get a lot of positive traction from the audiences.
