The Shikhar Dhawan Story- The nation-wide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has put a halt to sporting activities but in the meantime, these unprecedented circumstances have also brought the audience closer to the sportspersons. A lot of sportspersons in their free time are engaging with their audience on social media platforms. Players like David Warner has started a trend in Tiktok with his family while former players like Ramiz Raja and Aakash Chopra have engaged in fun discussions and interviews during this period. This type of content definitely offers more insight to the viewers who get to know a lot more about their role models than just on the field.
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken up the latter as an option do spend his free time in quarantine. Over the last few days, he has been hosting this segment in Instagram named ‘Reminiscize with Ash’. One of the recent episodes on the segment saw Indian cricket team opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan who reminiscing his days with Murali Vijay as an opening partner spoke about a lot of interesting facts about the Tamil Nadu batsman.
What Shikhar Dhawan Said?
Both, Ashwin and Dhawan have been part of the Indian Test team for a long time and as they spoke about their prowess the topic deviated to Murali Vijay. The Tamil Nadu opening batsman was at that tile opening partner of Dhawan in Test matches. The duo opened together from 2013 to mid-2018 and shares a great bond between themselves.
“He is a lovely character both on and off the field. I know him very closely. He is a beautiful soul. For everything, he is a bit like ‘not like this, not like that’. I am a ‘bindaas’ character,” Dhawan said. He further elaborated on the occasional, disagreements they had over running between the wickets.”
“I tell him ‘you are like my wife’. Sometimes, when we do not take a run, we argue but it gets sorted soon. And it is very difficult to understand him. You need to have a calm mind and patience to understand him. But he is a lovely chap. I love opening with him. We have done very well for the country. We are still very good friends. Of course, I look forward to spending time with him and having a good laugh with him. Sometimes, when he says something, I do not understand. But after 1-2 years, when I recall what he said, I understand it then”, Dhawan summarized.
What Next For This Duo?
It’s good to see these cricketers share such a strong bond. At times, cricketers have been known to fight and fall apart. However, this duo has done well to stay strong and grow.
The fans will love to see them back opening for India but at this point of time chances of that happening looks bleak. Both the batsman have not been at their best in recent times especially in red-ball cricket. However, Dhawan is still going strong in the limited-overs format for the Men in Blue but at the age of 36 and also considering the competition, Vijay may have already played his last game for the national team.
