MS Dhoni last scored an official century for the Indian team in 2017. Dhoni, as a batsman has had tough times since the year 2017. In 2018, he registered his all-time lowest batting average. Dhoni had a disastrous year with the bat in 2018. Cricket pundits started to believe that MS Dhoni’s career is going downhill. However, he came back strongly in 2019 with a ‘Man Of the Series’ award against Australia.
He even fared well with the bat in IPL 2019. He was the top scorer from Chennai Super Kings. In the ICC World Cup 2019 warm-up match against Bangladesh, he played a superb knock. He stitched up a dominant partnership with KL Rahul and was smashing the Bangladeshi bowlers all over the park.
He scored one of his fastest centuries for Team India. Moreover, Dhoni also scored his first overseas century. Although it was a practice match, he played with intent and was taking on the bowlers. Dhoni played with a very good strike rate and even was not backing off to play the big shots from time to time.
He played a beast inning of 113 runs off 78 balls. Dhoni hit a total of eight ‘fours’ and seven ‘sixes’ during his innings in that game. Moreover, he completed his century in just 73 balls, to round off a solid performance. The former Indian captain helped his side to cross the 350 runs mark with ease.
However, the former skipper of the Indian team was also involved in a funny incident during the innings. This incident really got highlighted and caught the attention of the fans as well. It had trended at that point of time all over social media. It did not just show Dhoni’s awareness but his sportsmanship spirit as well.
MS Dhoni sets the field for Bangladesh
Sabbir Rahman was bowling to Dhoni in the 40th over of the innings. MS Dhoni, to everyone’s surprise, observed some flaws in the fielding set-up. One of the Bangladeshi fielders had to be in the short squarish fine-leg region. However, he was standing out of position. Dhoni pointed out the flaw and tried to help the bowler. The bowler Sabbir Rahman looked embarrassed at this situation and asked the fielder to do as Dhoni said. KL Rahul, MSD and the umpire laughed after this incident.

However, it was not clear whether the fielder was moving sideways and hence distracting Dhoni. However, the way Sabbir Rahman obliged to the former Indian captain’s call shows how much all the players respect Dhoni.
MSD even sets the field for Team India in pressure situations, which has been observed a lot of times. From time to time, he also advises the spinner from behind the wickets, to bowl a particular delivery. The spinners, as well as the captain Virat Kohli, also acknowledge his call. Dhoni setting the field for an opposition is at another level. Although it was a warm-up match, it spoke highly of Dhoni’s character and his mindset.
Due to this, many-a-times, the team does miss his captaincy from behind the stumps. Hopefully, we can see Dhoni play once again in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
