Former India captain MS Dhoni has remained away from the game for close to a year now. He last played in the semi-final against New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. There have been various widespread speculations regarding the veteran’s future. However, MS Dhoni has managed to remain shut regarding this. Although, many people believe that his time in the national colours is over.
However, many fans and the ardent Dhoni fans still think that he has still a lot to offer to team India. Dhoni still has the match-winning factor in him despite being 39 years old. Former India selector Roger Binny praised MS Dhoni but also feels that MS Dhoni should now step aside and make room for the young guns.
Binny, was part of the selection panel in 2012 when MS Dhoni was the captain of the Indian Team. He feels that Dhoni’s time is over and he is already past his prime. So, he should reconsider whether he wants to continue prolonging his career or not.
Roger Binny feels that MS Dhoni has lost a bit of fitness
“Seeing him the last couple of seasons, he (MS Dhoni) is past the best cricket of his and what he is capable of doing – turning around matches from losing positions, with sheer intelligence and power. And the way he motivated his players too. He has lost a bit of fitness and there are younger players coming through the system. He is past his best really and he would be the right judge for that.”
Binny also lauded Dhoni’s personality and said that he was very humble and down to earth type of person. He had a great experience in working with him. “One thing we admired MS Dhoni for was that he had great respect for past cricketers. He was a very down-to-earth person and had a lot of respect and time for cricketers. He’d come and discuss with you and tell you what he wanted.
What Binny further told Sportskeeda?
“He was the man on the field and we had to give him what he wanted but he would not demand it. He would speak with the Chairman and the selectors and we did not have any arguments or fights. It was excellent to work with him.”
Dhoni is ready to return to the field in IPL 2020. He will be captaining the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) side in the UAE. The IPL will kickstart from September in the UAE, with the world watching. MS Dhoni will have one last chance to prove his worth. However, whether he can do that or not, remains to be seen.
If MS Dhoni is able to make an impact, he may be considered for the T20 World Cup. If not, then his international career could be all but over. Things could get really interesting now. Not a lot of time is left. Let’s wait and watch what happens next. We at Beyond The Posts are really glad that the IPL is coming back.
