Sri Lanka might have failed in their attempt to host the IPL 2020. The Sri Lanka Board has now told the BCCI that they are willing to host the India VS England Tests in Sri Lanka if the COVID-19 situation continues in India next year. England is set to tour India next year to play five Test matches. However, currently, India is very much affected by the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases. India is now one of the worst affected nations from the COVID-9 pandemic. There have been over 2.4 million cases in India so far.
The current situation in the country is so bad, that there is still uncertainty over the resumption of cricket in India. BCCI shifted the IPL 2020 from India to UAE due to the rapid rise in the COVID-19 cases. England was also et to tour India for a limited-overs series ion September. BCCI has postponed it even along with several other bilateral series.
England are currently playing a series against Pakistan.
England is also set to tour Sri Lanka in the early phase of next year and complete their postponed series. They spent two weeks in Colombo, preparing for the two-match Tests series but had to fly back to the UK due to rise in COVID-19 cases in the UK.
Sri Lanka is slowly and steadily getting back to normal condition after the pandemic. England is currently playing a T20 series against Pakistan, after successful hosting bilateral series against West Indies and Ireland. They also successfully beat them 1-0 in the Test series before this.
The 2019 World Cup winners have been going strong since their triumph last year. They have grown as a unit and the confidence is immense. The performances on the pitch really show and things are looking really good at present for them.
Sri Lanka also had to postpone many bilateral series due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SLC wanted to host the Lanka Premier League to resume cricketing action in the country. However, they postponed it to November on recommendations of the Health Ministry.
What Next For Team India And IPL?
The IPL is the most important tournament in the Indian schedule. There have been a lot of positive cases in the IPL camp. A lot of the CSK members were also COVID positive. Hopefully, things settle down soon and that there is an improvement in the situation.
It is one of the most important tournaments now. The BCCI will be focused on making some big money from this competition as well. They will be focused on making the most out of this competition, with the T20 World Cup being postponed to next year.
The situation currently does not look the best. However, it can change soon. There is no doubt about that. If things improve for the better, the IPL will surely happen. Let’s just wait and watch. Hopefully, there will be some positive news for Indian cricket as well. The teams will be focused on making that India vs England series happen for sure.
