Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma got injured in mid-season of IPL 2020. Although he was fit to play in the last few matches of IPL, he flew back to his home after the end of the tournament instead of boarding the flight to Australia like the rest of the Indian team. There was some sort of miscommunication between BCCI and Mumbai Indians which is clear now after Virat Kohli’s revelation. Due to that, the Hitman missed both the ODI and the T20 series between India and Australia.
What A BCCI Source Told ANI?
However, Rohit Sharma has now finally cleared his fitness test at NCA (National Cricket Academy), Bengaluru and is about to join team India for the rest of the tour. “He has passed the fitness test and the future course of action will be decided by the BCCI and the selection committee.”
Australia had thumped India 2-1 in the ODI series but India came back in the best possible way to defeat the Aussies by the same margin in the T20 series. The Indian squad has given a decent performance in the tour till now. Individual brilliance has sealed the victories. However, the failure of India’s top order has been evident all throughout. India’s batting line-up has heavily missed the presence of Rohit Sharma. Hardik Pandya was the highest runscorer among the Indians in the ODI series. This shows the top order’s lack of effectiveness. The Test series will decide the outcome of India’s tour. It is not only the most important but also the most difficult challenge ahead of the Men in Blue.
The Akash Chopra Statement That Had Gone Viral
India’s batting line-up has tumbled a lot in the recent past and moreover, skipper Virat Kohli will not be available for the last two test matches. Hence, Rohit Sharma’s availability becomes more important than ever. Commentator and cricket analyst Akash Chopra said after the loss in ODI series, “India need Rohit Sharma if want to chase 350 or more runs.”
However, Rohit might not be able to feature in the first Test match due to the 14 days quarantine rule. Even if Rohit flies to Australia immediately, he could only play the last two Test matches at SCG and Gabba respectively due to strict Australian protocols. However, if there is a further delay, Rohit might also miss the second test match. Thus, BCCI has to get things done quickly. The first and second test matches start on 17th and 26th December respectively.
What Next For Team India And Rohit Sharma?
This entire situation regarding Rohit Sharma’s injury gas cleared out one thing – the lack of effectiveness of BCCI. They have been really sluggish in getting things done lately. After the loss in the second ODI against Australia, Virat Kohli burst out against BCCI. He said that he didn’t know why was the board being so late to make decisions.
On the other hand, Rahane, Pujara, Umesh Yadav and the other known faces of the Indian Test team are busy practising for the upcoming series. They have been playing practise matches against Australia A. It’s worth mentioning that pacer Umesh Yadav has been significantly good in these practice matches. He took a lot of wickets which will add to his confidence. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has also been great. Their performance is giving hopes to the Indian fans.
