Now while playing for Colombo Kings in Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL), Russell broke the cricket ball by his brute force while smashing 32 runs off 20 balls. He hammered two fours and three sixes in this knock. He shattered the ball while hitting fours and sixes to bowler Binura Fernando. Umpires and other players also got dumfounded after watching such fierce hitting from Russell and ruptured ball by it. After this incident umpires changed broken ball with the new ball.
With the fabulous knocks of wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal and Andre Russell, Colombo Kings defeated Jaffna Stallions by 6 wickets. Chandimal scored 68 runs off 51 balls. He smoked seven fours and two sixes in his knock. Stallions allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga bagged two wickets in this game. His teammates Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Chaturanga de Silva bagged one wicket each in this game.

Before that Jaffna Stallions scored only 148 runs in 20 overs with a remarkable knock of allrounder Hasaranga.Hasaranga smashed 41 runs off 23 balls comprising with seven fours and one six. Opener Avishka Fernando played a blistering knock of 26 runs off 23 balls comprising with one four and two sixes. However, Stallions couldn’t defend this mediocre score in front of Colombo Kings. Dinesh Chandimal was awarded Man of The Match award for his match-winning knock in this match.
Colombo Kings is ranked at the second position in the points-table while Jaffna Stallion is ranked in the first position. Colombo Kings will play against Kandy Tuskers in the second match today. Jaffna Stallions will face Dambulla Viking on this Monday in LPL.
Will KKR Retain Him In IPL 2021 At The Back Of This Good Form?
Andre Russel failed to impress in IPL 2020. He was one of the biggest flops of the campaign and this did not help KKR’s case. Also, his injuries were also a concern and he was in and out of the team. That was not a great thing and eventually, the team from Kolkata faded out of the top-four race.
Shahrukh Khan and co. (the owners) will be a bit sceptical about retaining Andre Russel due to these reasons. With a couple of more teams coming in, they may consider turning their attention to a more consistent player.
Also, the matches will now be played in India. So that factor could also help to decide whether he is retained or let go off. The mega-auction for IPL 2021 will be held in January, as per the recent reports. It will be huge and some of these players might be concerned about their future.
