The Peter Borren Incident- With Euro 2020 going on and the exit of some of the top teams already, Social Media has been buzzing. Teams like defending champions Portugal and World Champions, France, have already exited the competition. Another team that was a shocking exit was Holland or the Netherlands. Very few fans would have thought that they would lose to the Czech Republic and exit the tournament this early.
However, that was the case and the team lost 2-0, after a red card to Matthijs de Ligt. It was an unfortunate incident. Despite that, it hurt them big time and they were out of the competition. Due to this, Twitter was talking about them a lot.
What Was The Whole Conversation Involving The Holland Cricket Team About?
One cricket fan who goes by the name Rahil Shah had a very legitimate doubt that many others may have too. They may know that the Netherlands plays football but may not remember that they are into cricket. This is where a lot of fans who must have not seen more than a few international tournaments need a friendly reminder.
This was the reason why he asked whether the Dutch have a cricket team. Possibly like many others, they would have forgotten that they indeed to. That is, though their level of performances has not been the best in recent times.
With that being said, former skipper of the Holland cricket team, Peter Borren responded. He added a few more qualities that the team has at present. It was good to see an ex-player and now coach and commentator interact with a normal cricket fan.
Below is the small conversation that emerged on Twitter between Peter Borren and the fan-
Wtf…. Holland cricket team exists???

Well, this is a good reminder for all the cricket fans who must have forgotten that Holland doesn’t just play football. They are into other sports too and are slowly pushing for more improvement. Though there may be a crisis or two in hand, their intention and interest are to do well.
Let’s hope that the team gets the financial backing that it needs to grow and sustain. They can do some great things if they get the right kind of support for the long run. This is something that has been a concern for many smaller nations (in stature) that play the game of cricket. Hopefully, the ICC can find a solution and help such teams out, creating better cricketing competition.
It will be for the greater good of the game and former players like Peter Borren can help promote the game and the team. This would help them gather the funds they need and grow in the long run. Hopefully, things go from good to better to even beyond for many teams like the Dutch, who want to be seen as serious contenders in the game. Let’s hope that happens soon!!
