Will Smith vs Chris Rock- The Oscar Awards ceremony today witnessed an incident that has caused major shockwaves across the entertainment industry while leaving everyone in the auditorium equally flabbergasted. In an awards ceremony that was meandering towards mediocrity in terms of an audience-worthy moment, the ceremony was suddenly jolted after this incident.
It all started when comedian Chris Rock took the stage to present the award at the ceremony for the Best Documentary Feature, after which he poked fun at Jada Pinkett Smith, saying that he was looking forward to seeing the Actress in “G.I.Jane 2”, a sequel to the movie “G.I.Jane”, where Demi Moore played the character of a shaven head soldier.
It All Started With A Joke That Was In Bad Taste, Yet That Is Just What The Oscars Do
The joke was clearly in poor taste because the actress has been open about her struggles in coming to terms with the hair loss that she suffers from due to her suffering from Alopecia. The next thing we know, Will Smith walks up to the comedian, proceeds to open hand slap him, and then walk away.
Damn. So did Will Smith just punch Chris Rock for real? Here is a Japanese network’s uncensored exchange between Will Smith and Chris Rock. #Oscars #WillSmith pic.twitter.com/fjqgypVdue

Well, the other side of the story is that it turns out that the reaction was due to the fact that Jada suffers from a condition called Alopecia. It is an autoimmune condition where the immune systems attack hair follicles, which results in hair loss. Hair typically falls out in small, round patches about the size of a quarter, but in some cases, hair loss is more extensive. Most people with the disease are healthy and have no other symptoms.
The reason for this condition is unknown, but the common consensus among the researchers is that it has something to do with both genetics and environmental factors, which leads the immune system to mistakenly attack the hair follicles. Further, NDTV confirmed that the actor apologized for his behaviour later, as he wishes to return to the event next year too. Let’s wait and watch!!
Health experts have classified the hair loss condition into three types:
- Patchy: In the most common type, hair loss happens in one or more coin-sized patches on the scalp or other parts of the body.
- Totalis: People with this type lose all or nearly all of the hair on their scalp.
- Universalis: This is an extremely rare type, there is a complete or nearly complete loss of hair on the scalp, face, and rest of the body.
Jada first opened up about her struggles with Alopecia way back in 2018, on her Red Table Talk series, saying that she used to find a handful of hair while taking a shower. This led to her having various struggles, after which she admitted that she found the initial stages of Alopecia terrifying to deal with, but later found the strength, after which she decided to permanently shave her head.
She then publically showed her shaved hairstyle in 2021.
