ECB Has Identified Matthew Mott As The Front Runner To Head Coach Job In Limited-Overs

Latest England Cricket News

Latest England Cricket News: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to introduce a novel change to its coaching system by recruiting two new coaches. While one will be in charge of directing the squad for the test matches, the other will handle the preparations for the limited-overs games. While they continue their hunt for the white-ball coach, they have announced Brendon McCullum, a former captain of the New Zealand national team, for the Test post.

It has come to light that former all-rounder Paul Collingwood is one of the frontrunners for the position. He was England’s interim coach for the West Indies tour earlier this year. However, England Cricket has another candidate in Matthew Mott. He is currently the head coach of the Australian women’s team.

According to reports that were published on ESPNcricinfo, “Mott has been favoured by the interview panel over former England allrounder Paul Collingwood.” He was the leading candidate, having stepped in as head coach on the most recent visits to the Caribbean.

What did Mott say previously?

Mott has a wealth of experience as a coach. He has previously held positions with New South Wales, Glamorgan, and Australia A. In addition to that, during the 2009 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he worked with the Kolkata Knight Riders as an assistant coach. Since 2015, the 48-year-old has been a part of the coaching staff for the Australian women’s team. Under Meg Lanning’s leadership, the team has since gone on to win both the 2018 and 2020 editions of the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. Further, they have also won the ICC Women’s World Cup, in New Zealand earlier this year.

“If you want to be a good coach, you have to constantly be looking forward. There will always be the question of ‘what’s next? On the other hand, I am having a fantastic time with what I am doing right now. There is no pressing need for me to go someplace else right now. Many individuals have the misconception that switching to the men’s program is a step in the right direction. I believe that getting through just requires one step. Have been a part of the Australia A men’s program on several different occasions. Have liked my job in there,” Mott said in an interview with the AAP,

The Three Lions have a demanding schedule ahead of them. It includes competing in the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia later this year. As a result, the decision to divide the coaching job might prove to be very beneficial for both the players and the general administration of the squad.
