IPL 2022: During the Indian Premier League 2022 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Chetan Sakariya was forced to experience both highs and lows. The team paid a staggering INR 4.2 crore to get his services. But he was only able to participate in three games for them.
Sakariya fared well even though he only played in a few games. He took three wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 7.64. The pacer for the Saurashtra team is famous for his one-of-a-kind celebrations. When he got rid of Aaron Finch in the Indian Premier League 2022, he showed off a similar celebration from the anime series Dragon Ball Z.
IPL 2022: What did Sakariya say?
Chetan Sakariya said in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda how the celebration he had after taking the wicket of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener was intended to be a tribute to his late father. He said:
“The day that I played and took the wicket of Aaron Finch was also the day that I celebrated with Dragon Ball Z. When the character did it, he would be transported to the location of his choosing whenever he performed it. Consequently, I used my teleportation abilities to visit my father and informed him, “Look, I’ve got an international player out.” That struck me as a rather unusual experience.”
Sakariya also discussed the way in which his father inspired him, although in a roundabout way, to dismiss an “international player” so that he might be acknowledged as a skilled bowler. In response to this, he said:
“I didn’t make the cut for the playing XI. So, I found myself experiencing a lot of isolation as a result. I used to have trouble sleeping since I thought about my dad a lot throughout the night. In the past, he would pick on me by claiming that the only way he would consider me a decent bowler is if I was able to get an international player out of the game.”
There are a great number of fast bowling all- in Saurashtra: Chetan Sakariya
This IPL has seen a lot of prospects come through through these state-level domestic T20 competitions. The left-arm bowler said that there are several such players to keep an eye out for in the future.
India has always yearned for a larger pool of fast bowling all-rounders to choose from. The 24-year-old thinks that there are a lot of players like him now competing in the SPL. If they reach their full potential, they will demonstrate it in the IPL.
He remarked that: “The region of Saurashtra is producing a significant number of promising young players, particularly fast bowling all-rounders. Because they are U19 and U23 players, there is still some time left. But there is no doubt that Saurashtra will send a large number of players to the IPL.”
Chetan Sakariya is a bowler who puts in a lot of effort. He will most certainly carry on the positives from the few matches he had for DC into the next season.
