Ian Smith, a former New Zealand cricketer, said that Virat Kohli did a great job against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. In the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match, India beat their biggest rivals by four wickets thanks to Kohli’s unbeaten 82-run innings.
Smith said that Kohli’s shots against Haris Rauf in the second-to-last over were his best. With eight balls left and 28 runs to win, Kohli hit the Pakistan fast bowler for two sixes in a row. This cut the number of runs needed to win in the last over down to 16.
First, Kohli went down and over the long boundary. Then, he flicked his bat in a beautiful way that went all the way over the ropes. The Men in Blue didn’t look back after that, and they went on to win the match.
What did Ian Smith say about Virat Kohli after his brilliant knock at the MCG?
In the first part of his interview, he said, “I do not know what to say.’ I think that shows us all that he thinks it is very important and that, because of the event and the atmosphere, it is right up there. I would be very, very surprised if it was not in the top 3.”
Smith was quoted in the ICC review as saying, “The way he finished, the shots he played while kneeling down and punching the pitch to let off steam. In the end, it was Ravi Ashwin who had the last word, which is ironic,” he said.
Kohli is a genius because of how he plays and how he has figured out the game. He knows exactly what to do when to do it, and when to push the go button. With two overs left, he hit two shots, including one that went over the bowler’s head off the backfoot. This was a big shot at the MCG.
Then he made the bowler change his line, and then he flicked it over fine leg for six. Those two shots will be the ones I remember most from the competition,” said Smith.
After KL Rahul was out, Kohli came to bat and stayed until the end. He also put together a 113-run partnership with Hardik Pandya for the fifth wicket.
Kohli, who is 33 years old, also won the Player of the Match award for his amazing knock while under a lot of pressure.
Virat Kohli has had a lot of ups and downs in 2022. The batter’s year didn’t start out well, as he struggled with his form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and then in the series against England. But by the time of the Asia Cup, Kohli had rested during the T20I series against the West Indies and the ODI series against Zimbabwe. In the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, Kohli was at his best. He scored 82 runs without being out in just 53 balls to help India reach 160 runs.
