Arsenal is allegedly interested in 23-year-old Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha, a target for Aston Villa and Everton
After losing Gabriel Jesus for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to injury, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering a move for Matheus Cunha. Both Aston Villa and Everton are interested in signing the Brazilian international.
Cunha has only scored twice in 17 games this season for Atletico Madrid. And it will be intriguing to see whether he is eager to explore a new adventure when the transfer window reopens in January. The report from The Athletic says that teams like Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, Leeds United, and Aston Villa are interested in getting the services of the player as well.
Will Matheus Cunha move to Arsenal?
According to reports, wolves were the ones making the most headway in their pursuit of the young man. They may, however, be unwilling to meet Atletico Madrid’s price for the striker. It will be intriguing to see whether Everton, who have long admired the youngster, decide to reawaken their interest in January. They have yet to replace Richarlison adequately. The Brazilian might be the perfect long-time successor for his compatriot.
What’s next in the transfer?
Also in the market to bolster his assault in January is Aston Villa boss Unai Emery. He has his eye on the Brazilian forward. As for Arsenal, they are undoubtedly the largest club in the competition. They should be able to bring the 23-year-old to the Emirates if they are actually interested in signing him.
The North London giants are now at the top of the Premier League standings. They will be looking to prolong the championship chase until the very end. The loss of Gabriel Jesus due to injury is devastating. Thus in January Arteta will need to find a replacement. Playing much of the second part of the season without an established striker might harm their Premier League title prospects.
Despite his troubles in La Liga, the 23-year-old Brazilian international remains a great prospect. And he might prove to be a terrific long-term addition to the Arsenal assault if he manages to rediscover his confidence and sharpness. It will be intriguing to see whether the Gunners overcome Aston Villa, Everton, and others in his chase.
