David Warner Silences Media Outlet With Stern Career Update!!

David Warner Makes Huge Statement!! Ahead of the World Cup, Australia were a side that was plagued by a huge cloud of uncertainty. Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell were all suffering from varying degrees of injuries. Steve Smith was batting past his pain threshold by taking cortisone injections to expedite his recovery from a wrist ailment. But none of those problems came even remotely close to the problem of their key player and opening batsman being woefully out of form.

David Warner came into this World Cup with a rather public announcement of this being his last dose of World Cup action as he will be hanging his boots from all formats in a systematic manner. But while there was sentiment all around, the numbers and performances were not proving to be his ally at that time. His form across all formats was a huge problem and he started the World Cup in a similar funk.

He struggled en-route to his 40-odd runs vs India, and then went for a rather ugly 27-ball-13 vs South Africa. That was followed by another poor showing vs Sri Lanka where he was castled for 11. 3 games, barely any contributions and out came the daggers. The washed alerts, the not good enough for Australia jibes became a common appearance across tabloids.

The Aussie Opener Is A Really Special Player!!

It made you wonder if this is the end of the road for One Day Cricket’s finest and probably greatest opening batsmen for not only Australia, but World Cricket in general. However, there was life in the old dog just yet, and he was going to make sure that he would exit this World Cup on his own terms, and what better way to do it by writing your own story by having a fabled World Cup campaign for the ages.

However, we would have not been able to see this story, because it was almost DELETED before it began. That is, had Usama Mir held on to a skier at Bangalore when Warner was on 10. We would not be posting this article. But as fate would have it, Usama grassed that catch. And Warner went on to score a mammoth 163 that breathed life back into Australia’s faltering campaign.

He then went on to compliment that by scoring another ton vs Netherlands. Those 2 tons were then followed by two more half-centuries as Warner was a key cog in the wheel for Australia’s eventual march to their 6th World Cup title.

All in all, Warner scored 535 runs in his 11 innings, with 2 centuries and 2 50+ scores. And all in all, he ends his World Cup career on a glorious note, with stats only few can match. He ends his World Cup with a total of 1527 runs at an excellent average of 56.55. That is, to go with an astounding strike rate of 101.46. He also finished with 6 World Cup hundreds, going level with Sachin Tendulkar. And only one behind Rohit Sharma who has 7. So it is safe to say that he has had the perfect bounce-back after the early setbacks.

What David Warner Said On Twitter And Instagram Recently!?

However, Warner has not forgotten all those critics!! And the people who put out question marks over his quality and class throughout the course of this tournament. In a tweet posted by him, he is seen retweeting an image that has his numbers throughout the course of his World Cup career with a small but very strong message to all his detractors. The tweet simply read, “Who Said that I was finished?”

Talk about going out with a bang, because with this message, Warner has done just that. Not that he cares about it too much. After all, he’s just won a World Cup hasn’t he?
