Football is a game that has been growing across the nation of India like wild-fire and every state wants to be involved with the sport these days. What started off with the I-League all those years ago, lead to the Indian Super League and hosting the U-17 FIFA World Cup recently was a feather in the cap too. The game has surely evolved for the better and there is some more good news now. BROTHERS FOOTBALL CLUB, BELGAUM has officially been registered under BELGAUM DISTRICT FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, affiliated to Karnataka State Football Association and will see a new beginning from January, 2019.
The club that was founded back in 2008 by two young footballers, named Shahebaz Desai and Umar Meera in the city has seen a wave of change too. It initially played using a different name in the district league (YMCA, registered under BDFA) and has established a good name in local football, as it has always been in top flight.
President Shahebaz Desai and secretary Umar Meera spoke to BEYONDTHEPOSTS and stated, “We are happy that the club has been officially registered and we cant wait to play under this name.”
Talking about the recent developments, it has been confirmed that Veeresh Mallabadi has joined the club as head of operations and team manager. The 25 year old brings in his 8 years of experience in Indian football, which will be a huge boost for them.
Talking to us, Veeresh added, “I know what it takes to build a good team with high standard. I have my friends coaching and playing in national teams and top clubs in India and abroad.”
Further adding about the sponsors for the season, he said, “We have roped in world famous Dharwad Pedha maker BIG MISHRA’s as our title sponsor for this season. Local Suzuki dealers Manickbag Suzuki as our associate sponsors, Portuguese kit designer FootballKitStudio as our design partners, VECTOR X as our equipment sponsors. Supreme Sports are our kit partners and BeyondThePosts as social media partner worldwide.”
With regards to the current situation of the team, Veeresh concluded by saying, “The club is currently training under the guidance of FA LEVEL 2 coach PAVAN SARDESAI. The 32 year old who has worked under former Queens Park Rangers’ player Mr. AKPO SIDJE, has joined the club till the end of season. Pavan has been coaching at the grass-root level in Dubai and this is his first job in India.”
The club will only be focusing on the growth and development of the local talent. After the senior league gets over, the club will start with U-13 and U-18 teams, which will be a huge boost for the youngsters of the city.
This could be the start of something really special and this is exactly what Belgaum football was always missing. They say that there is no better time to make a difference than the present itself and this could now make a mark on the global footballing world, if given the right kind of support. We wish BROTHERS FC the very best for their near and long-term future. Cheers.
