Report: Emphatic Win By Chelsea Over Wolves Could Boost Their Chances For The Liverpool Match?

Chelsea

Chelsea thrashed Wolves at Mollineaux on Saturday with a margin of 5-2. With this win, the Blues went up to the sixth position in the league table of the Premier League with eight points in five matches so far. Three other teams, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester City are on the same points. However, they are ahead of Chelsea because of a better goal difference.

The Story Of The Win Secured By Chelsea Over Wolves

Chelsea did not start the match as they would have wished to. N’Golo Kante’s absence is certainly giving Frank Lampard nightmares week after week. In this game week, he fielded his side with a formation of 3-5-2. Antonio Rudiger was back in the starting lineup. Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori started along with him in the three men defence. Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta started as two wing-backs. Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount were there in the midfield while Willian and Tammy Abraham were there at the upfront of the field.

Chelsea took 31 minutes in the first half to break the deadlock in this match. It was a brilliant curler of Fikayo Tomori from long range which helped the Blues to take the lead in this match. After that, it was Tammy Abraham show at Mollineaux. Tammy Abraham scored the second goal of Chelsea in the 34th minute of the match. The young English youngster scored his second goal of the match at the 41st minute from the pass provided by Marcos Alonso. The first half ended with a scoreline of 3-0 in favour of Chelsea.

At the beginning of the second half, Frank Lampard was obliged to make a forced change as Antonio Rudiger was unable to continue with a groin injury. Kurt Zouma replaced him at the back. Chelsea continued to dominate in the second half of the match. Tammy Abraham scored his first hat trick for Chelsea with a goal at the 55th minute of the match. It was brilliant through ball provided by Jorginho and the finishing of Tammy Abraham was also remarkable.

What Next For The Blues; Are Liverpool’s  Chances Boosted Too?

After the fourth goal, Chelsea started to lose possession in the game. Wolves put some amount of pressure on the Chelsea defence. As a result of it, the Wolves pulled one goal back at the 69th minute. The ball was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga but it touched Tammy Abraham to go into the net. Patrick Cutrone scored the second goal for the Wolves at the 85th minute of the match. However, Mason Mount finished the game for the Blues with a goal at the 96th minute of the match. The pass was provided by Michy Batshuayi. The match ended with a scoreline of 5-2 in favour of Chelsea.

After the win against the Wolves, Chelsea is going to face Valencia at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in the first match of the group stage of the Champions League. After that, they will face Liverpool in the Premier League at the same venue. These two matches are certainly very important for Chelsea. However, the defensive unit of the Blues will keep their manager disturbed for the next few days.

On the other hand, the Reds beat Newcastle at home 3-1, with having to make a comeback to do so. They will have a tough challenge against Napoli in mid-week, post which they will face the Blues at Stamford Bridge. It will be an interesting tie, though they are the favourites to win it.
