After another home defeat in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s side is almost out of the title race. As they have a mountain to climb now, according to a former Reds legend Jamie Carragher. Steven Alzate’s strike was enough for Brighton and Hove Albion to register a crucial win at Anfield. Despite having more possession, which is very normal for Klopp’s side, they failed to break the resolute Brighton defence at their home.
Liverpool is now sitting at fourth position in the Premier League standings. They are seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Liverpool has to be looking at the top four positions – Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports:
Carragher outlines Andy Robertson’s sayings that the Reds are not in this season’s title race anymore. The former Reds defender believes they would take a top-four finish now.
“Andy Robertson came out and said Liverpool are not in the title race. I think that is the right way to look at it at the moment. Liverpool realistically have to look at a top four positions. that is because their form is so down this term.”
“so many changes to the team. you are never quite sure what it is going to be. Alisson out at the last minute against Brighton. still waiting for players to come back.”
“So I think if you were to offer Liverpool a top-four finish they would take it. shake on it. That should be the current mindset for Liverpool. that is the thing that they should be ideally aiming for at the moment.”
“they would have to beat Manchester City to get back in the title race (which did not happen). Then, with seven or eight games to go, anything could happen. Hopefully from Liverpool’s perspective, City does have some sort of a drop, which the Reds can capitalize on.”
“Impossible to keep the current run going for any team. City obviously cannot win every single game till the end of the season. so I would expect them to drop points at some stage. Despite that, the main problem for Liverpool is that the gap is too big. also, if they fail to win at Anfield, it is done. (which eventually happened)”
Guardiola’s City is in red hot form and is running away with the title
This season’s title challenge has been more competitive than any of the last few seasons. There are at least seven to eight teams fighting to qualify for the Champions League spots.
Liverpool’s form has been so poor alongside issues with injuries to some of their key players. Carragher says the only hope for them this term to have any chance of getting back to the race is to beat Manchester City at Anfield (which didn’t happen). The Cityzens are flying high and are looking the favourites to win the title.
The Reds on the other hand are really struggling at present. Despite that, Pep Guardiola’s main target this term will be the Champions League. Let’s wait and watch what happens next as the season progresses!!
