ICC World T20 2022: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to name two separate squads for the upcoming Twenty20 International (T20I) series against South Africa, which will consist of five matches, and the tour of England, which will include one test match, three T20Is, and as many ODIs. The release of the team may take place on May 22. It is the last day of the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During their most recent conversation, former Indian cricketers Nikhil Chopra and Mohammad Azharuddin spoke about the team’s lineup for the upcoming series against the Proteas.
Chopra thinks that the selectors would undoubtedly choose the players whom they consider most deserving of a spot in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022. The former bowler continued by saying that the players who will get into the India squad would want to maintain their spots and perform well. This would be advantageous for the Indian team.
What did Nikhil Chopra say about the players for the ICC World T20 2022?
“The next series against South Africa will provide a chance for some of the younger players who are contending for a spot in the World Cup. The more experienced players will compete in the Asia Cup. When you have an abundance of players and the opportunity to test your bench strength, it’s a wonderful issue to have. The players who will be chosen will expect to seize their opportunities and perform well. In return, the competition and quality will only improve. It is fantastic for Indian cricket,” Chopra said this on the Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Selectors need to put more weight on performances in domestic cricket than in the IPL: Mohammad Azharuddin
According to Azharuddin, the selectors for the South Africa series should choose younger players. This is because the majority of the more experienced players would be travelling to England for the tour. He went on to say that the selectors should choose the players when they are at the peak of their performance and are fully confident in their talents. The former captain of India made a plea to the selection committee. He requested that they give more weight to those players who are excelling in domestic cricket rather than those who are just succeeding in the IPL.
“There are a large number of players in the pool who have performed well. I feel that the selectors chose younger players for the South Africa series. Senior players will be participating in the England tour. Instead of picking them when they are not doing well, you should give them the opportunities they deserve when they are playing well. This is preferable than picking them when they are not performing well. In addition to that, the selectors need to see the guys playing well in domestic cricket as well. They can’t only concentrate on the IPL,” Azharuddin remarked.
