Ruud van Nistelrooy, the manager of PSV Eindhoven, thinks that Arsenal have a chance to win the Premier League this season. But he also knows what they have to do to win.
The Manchester United legend was talking after his team lost to the Gunners 1-0 on Thursday night in the Europa League (October 20).
The win was Arsenal’s 13th in 14 games this season. The Emirates Stadium is full of hope. At the moment, the Gunners are four points ahead of the rest of the Premier League and in the first place.
What did Van Nistelrooy say about Arsenal?
Arsenal hasn’t won the league title since 2004. But Van Nistelrooy thinks they can do it this season. The former Netherlands striker does, however, have some concerns about how young the team is. He told a press conference, as reported by The Metro:
“I was able to tell Mikel how much I liked him. The way he builds his team, the way he lets his team play, the signings he’s made to make his team play the way he wants them to play, and how he ties that to results.
And if you’ve played 10 Premier League games and won nine of them, you’re definitely in the running. It is pretty clear that they are the youngest team in the Premier League. So that is the challenge. But they have the team, the players, and the manager to do it.”
When the team sheet for Arsenal’s game against PSV came out, it raised a few eyebrows because Bukayo Saka was again listed as a starter. The kid has been playing great. But he has been playing so much that people are starting to worry that he may be tired.
Arteta has explained (via GOAL) why he chose to play the England winger:
“Look at the best players in the world. Every three days, they play 70 matches and make a difference and win. You have to be able to get to the top if you want to be there. And if we start to tell a young player something different, I think we are making a big mistake, because then he would say, “No, I don’t play now, and I don’t play on artificial turf.
That’s not what I want. Every three days, I want them to be cruel. I want them to come up to my door and say, “I want to play, and I want to win.” No fitness trainer in the world can tell me they can’t do it, because I’ve seen it happen. scored 50 goals in 72 games.”
