Chelsea has been on his list of preferred locations for quite some time. Given that Rice trained at the Blues’ Cobham school, he and the team have a long history together. At first glance, he seemed ready to reunite with some old acquaintances at Stamford Bridge. However, he may have found a different atmosphere there.

To start, Chelsea is now ninth in the Premier League rankings, indicating a disastrous season so far. The Blues may soon be eliminated from playoff contention if Graham Potter’s squad continues to perform poorly. They have a long way to go before they can even think about qualifying for the Champions League.

Therefore, Rice could think twice about signing with them. This would allow a rival club like Arsenal to rush in and steal him away. The English national is apparently attracting attention from the Gunners. In the summer, they may make a substantial offer. The boss apparently has the midfielder in mind as a potential star player to sign.

Reports from the summer say that Mikel Arteta approved of signing Rice. Dean Jones is certain that if Arsenal wins the Premier League, they would have a better chance of signing the midfielder.

When talking about the likelihood of Rice moving to Arsenal this summer, Jones told GiveMeSport: “I do think we should bear in mind from an Arsenal point of view that they are considering their midfield situation and ensuring that they’re strong enough in that area to, first of all, get through this season and then to strengthen in the summer. So, it’s not impossible that they go for Declan Rice. They’ll be in a really strong position if they were to win the league.”
