The Jason Holder Show- The Big Bash League 2020-21 has kicked off with a bang. With some unbelievable and thrilling matches, the Australian T20 league has become a fan favourite domestic league. Some explosive innings from the batsmen and deadly spells from the bowlers have made this league unputdownable. Yesterday’s match between Sidney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers witnessed one such performance by West Indies captain Jason Holder.
The Jason Holder Show In The Big Bash League
Coming on to play his debut BBL match, Holder seemed to have no patience to wait. He hit the first ball for a huge six which got stuck on a tree. With this, the West Indian marked his entry into the Australian league.
Adelaide Strikers won the toss and elected to field first. Coming on the bat first, the team from Sydney did not get a great start. Openers Josh Phillipe and Jack Edwards got dismissed early having scored 6 and 17 runs respectively. James Vince also played a below-par knock of a run-a-ball 19. The captain of the team, Daniel Hughes, then came in to take controller of the situation. He went on to play an unbeaten knock of 46(41).

He gave the finishers of the team a good enough platform to play freely. Dan Christian then came in to play a record-breaking knock. The Australian scored his half-century in only 15 balls before being dismissed by Wes Agar. That is the second-fastest half-century in the history of BBL! After the dismissal of Christian, Jason Holder arrived in the 19th over to play his cameo. Facing Pacer Wes Agar, Holder converted an average delivery into a six in his very first ball. Videos of the shot went viral all over the internet. The individual brilliance of Holder, Christian and Hughes took Sidney’s total past the 170 run mark. They managed to score 177/5 in 20 overs.
What Next For The Sidney Sixers In The BBL?
Coming on to chase, the Adelaide Strikers never really looked convincing. None of their batsmen performed well apart from Jonathan Wells who scored an unbeaten 36 off 38. The bowlers of Sidney Strikers played exceptionally well. Carlos Braithwaite, Steve O’Keefe and Benjamin Manenti took two wickets each. Dan Christian also took one wicket at the expense of 25 overs. Christian also won the man of the match award. Adelaide Strikers managed to score a mere 139/7 in 20 overs and Sydney this won by 38 runs.
After this match, Sidney Sixers have overtaken Adelaide Strikers to be seated on the third spot in the league table. Although the league is just begun, the team from Sydney have pretty much secured a comfortable position. They now have a clear lead of three points over the fourth-placed Adelaide Strikers.
On Saturday, Jason Holder and co. will take on a strong Melbourne Stars team with hopes of bettering their points tally. The Stars are unbeaten in the tournament till now and are in tremendous form. On the other hand, Sidney Sixers had lost their first league match and are unbeaten since then. It will surely be a match to watch out for.
