In the recent past, cricket has no longer be such a favourable sport for the bowlers. Especially the arrival of shorter formats like T20 and now T10 has made the sport very hard for the bowlers. The main purpose of these shorter formats is to entertain the audience in a very small span of time. Hence, to make these matches more entertaining, the pitches of T20s and T20s are usually maintained so as to favour the batsmen. However, recently in a match of the European Cricket League, Sri Lankan bowler Deesh Banneheka did the unimaginable and gave the batsmen a hard time.
The Feat That Deesh Banneheka Achieved
Dream 11 European Cricket League is a T20 cricket league featuring seven teams. All the matches are streamed all over the world through their networks. The 2020 European Cricket League – abbreviated ECL20 is the second edition of the European Cricket League which was initially scheduled be held from May 31 to June 7, 2020, at La Manga Club in Spain.
Event organisers increased the number of eligible teams to sixteen this year. On 18 March 2020, it was announced that the tournament was postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing.
As each inning lasts for just 10 overs, several matches can be played on a single day within a short span of time.
An Amazing Feat That Shocked Everyone Across The Globe
Playing for Winterthur, Deesh Banneheka bowled an exceptional spell and ended up taking five wickets in a single over! Al-Amin Hossain was the first bowler to take five wickets in one over in Twenty20 cricket. Now, this Sri Lankan bowler has achieved this feat in the T10 format.
In the match between Winterthur and Olten, Bannaheka came on to bowl the eighth over. He took a first-ball wicket. The next ball was a dot. The Sri Lankan then took 4 wickets in the last four balls of the over. This is also called a double hat-trick. At that time, Olten was playing a comfortable inning of 75/1 in 7 overs. The Sri Lankan then came in to dismantle the opposition’s batting line up.

Despite delivering a record-breaking career-best performance, Bannaheka couldn’t lead his team to glory. In the end, Winterthur lost the match. Irrespective of the result, the 5-wicket in one over feat is indeed very rare and the Sri Lankan bowler would forever be remembered for that.
Yet, Some critics feel that Bannaheka’s spell is appreciable but it cannot make a place in the record books. That is because the European Cricket League is not a legitimate league. Some also said that the quality of batsmen was below par. Whatever be a case, the Sri Lankan bowler has made headlines and gathered praises from all over the world through his brilliant achievement.
However, the record for the best figure in the shorter format (T20), is held by India’s Deepak Chahar. The 28-year old Agra born lad once took six wickets in 3.2 overs against Bangladesh, at an expense of just seven runs, in the year 2029. With this extraordinary spell, Deepak Chahar created the record for the best bowling figures in men’s T20I.
