India and Bangladesh faced each other in the ICC World T20 group stages in M Chinnaswami Stadium, Bangalore. Bangladesh needed two from the last three deliveries of the match. However, India made an improbable turn around by picking three wickets in three deliveries to win the match. In that match, MS Dhoni pulled off a lightning-fast stumping to dismiss Sabbir Rahman, who was playing very well.
Recently, Sabbir accepted that he learnt a lesson from MS Dhoni that day. So, he tried to not repeat the same mistake during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This time around, he got back to his crease on time.
MS Dhoni pulled off a lightning-fast stumping to dismiss Sabbir Rahman in the ICC World T20 2016 match
MS Dhoni is one of the best wicket-keepers the cricket world has ever witnessed. He is unorthodox with his keeping skills but pulls of stunners which he only can. Dhoni is lightning fast behind the stumps and that helps him to pull of stumpings in no time. In the T20 World Cup match against India, Sabbir Rahman was batting very well. He was on 26 from 15 balls with three fours and one six. However, MS Dhoni’s lightning-fast glovework behind the stumps dismissed him and brought India back into the game.
When Bangladesh faced India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 game, Sabbir Rahman was batting well. However, leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was causing him all sorts of problems with his spin bowling. On one occasion, he charged down the wicket to hit Chahal. But he missed the ball altogether. However, this time he managed to get back into the crease on time. He later said to MS Dhoni, ‘Aaj Nahi’.
“Not Today”, Sabbir told MS Dhoni.
“Dhoni stumped me during the World T20 2016 in Bangalore. He was standing for stumping again this time also, I slide before him while running and told him that ‘Aaj Nahi’ [not today],” Sabbir told Cricfrenzy during a Facebook live.
Sabbir also said that he asked MS about his success mantra to hit big sixes. Dhoni told him that it the confidence that allows him to hit long sixes. “[During the home series in 2015] I asked him [MS Dhoni] how you hit such big sixes. Whatever you hit becomes six, how. Tell me the secret of your bat. What is in your bat that we don’t have and as a result our sixes don’t go as far as your ones,” added Sabbir. “He told me that it is just confidence. Besides, there is nothing in my bat. If I think that I am going to be hit six, then there will be 90 sixes out of 100. That is confidence,’’ Dhoni said.
Sabbir even asked MS Dhoni for one of his bats
Sabbir even asked MS Dhoni to give him one of his bats and that he will play with it against him. However, MS Dhoni promised to give his bat to him only on one condition, “Then I say to him give me one of your bats and I will try to play against you with that bat. He told me that not against us, you can play with another team but can not play against me,” he signed off.
