MS Dhoni’s batting position in Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as well as Team India, has always been a topic of debate in recent years. Many experts believe that MS Dhoni should now bat at the top order, given the stage of his career. Dhoni batting higher up the order will be fruitful for the team. The debate has reignited again, as just one month is left for the start of the IPL 2020.
CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey has now expressed his opinion regarding MS Dhoni’s batting position for CSK in the upcoming IPL. Dhoni usually bats at the number 5 and 6 position and plays as a finisher.
What Hussey told The New Indian Express in a recent interview?
Hussey believes that Dhoni should bat at number 4 for CSK in the IPL. He even said that Dhoni batting higher up the order will prove to be beneficial for the team.
“No. 4 is ideal for MS Dhoni to bat, but everyone in the middle-order will need to adapt as per the situation. Not sure yet what the make-up of the team will be. Just focused on the preparation phase at the moment.”
Well, we all know that MS Dhoni is a versatile player. This is when it comes to his batting. He can really shuffle up and down the order, as per the need to the team. However, in recent times he has struggled for form. Whether he can actually do that or not, will be a tough ask.
Hussey feels that CSK does have a lot of experience in the team
Hussey even opined about Chennai Super King’s strength in the upcoming IPL. He stressed on the fact that CSK has a perfect balance in their squad for the upcoming IPL. It is always important to maintain the right kind of balance between batting and bowling. That is essential with regards to winning any competition.
“Just get in there (ground) and do the hard work. We are lucky to have a lot of experienced players in our ranks who know their game well. They also know what they need to prepare and how to be ready for the task.”
“Of course, batting is our strength, but I feel we have a well-balanced team that covers all the skill sets well. Not really that easy as everybody thinks. Every player will have to go there and adapt to the conditions.”
Dhoni will be bracing the cricket field after a gap of a year. He last played in the 2019 world Cup semi-final against England at the Old Trafford. There was a lot of debate regarding Dhoni’s future and his retirement. However, the legend might have answers ready to show that he is still up for a fight.
MS Dhoni retires from international cricket
In a recent Instagram post, MS Dhoni finally announced that he has retired from international cricket. Just as Hussey was talking about what the former Indian skipper could do in the IPL, he announced his retirement.
Along with the skipper, Suresh Raina also did the same. Things got really interesting at that point in time.
