The Big Bash League (BBL) started yesterday with a bang as Hobart Hurricanes struck first blood against the defending champions Sydney Sixers. There were several top performances but none exceeded the knock played by Singaporean cricketer Tim David. The 24-year old batter used the long handle to great effect and stitched a crucial inning to propel the Hurricanes first innings score to 178.
The BBL Commentary Video That Went Viral
David’s knock of 58 runs in 33 balls which included eight boundaries and one six really made the difference between both the sides as the Sixers fell short of the target by 16 runs and lost the opener. Therefore the Singaporean cricketer got the Player of the match while veteran Aussie pacer James Faulkner played his part with the ball in taking two crucial wickets and giving away just 22 runs from his quota of four overs.
Faulkner came up with an early strike to dismiss the dangerous Joshua Philippe and then came back later in the innings to send James Vince back to the pavilion. Vince played a great hand of 67 (41) and was looking to steer the Sixers home.

More Action From An Eventful Game In The BBL
It all started when Sixers skipper Daniel Hughes won the toss and invited Hurricanes to bat first and they lost their openers Will Jacks and D’Arcy Short early on. Captain Peter Handscomb and South African batsman Colin Ingram stitched a very important partnership to build a base for the likes of Tim David to go blitzkrieg at the latter part of the innings. Ingram came up with a brilliant innings to kickstart the new season as he scored 55 runs from 44 deliveries.
However, the action took a different turn when Tim David came to the crease and starting connecting those shots and scoring at a brisk rate. The Singaporean showed his exceptional hitting prowess against a good bowling lineup of the Sixers and took Hurricanes to a challenging first innings score.
In reply, Sixers lost Joshua Philippe early but still had a great start to chase down the score. Jack Edwards and James Vince played some scintillating shots as the Sixers glided to 118/1 before the collapse started. After Vince’s dismissal in the 14th over, the others fell off like a pack of cards eventually falling short by 16 runs.
The Special Save By Jordan Silk That Also Grabbed Attention
There were moments of magic when Jordan Silk pulled off a blinder on the boundary line. Also, excellent batting with David, Ingram and Vince showing their skills. Lastly, great bowling in display with Faulkner coming to his own.
Even the commentators did not fall behind. There was a hilarious moment in the first innings when Tim David was going hell for leather and as he lofted a shot of Dan Christian and commentator Mark Howard thought it was going over the boundary line. He said, “David goes long, goes strong and he is out.”
Unfortunately the Singaporean could not connect that ball well and was caught on the boundary line but the commentary of Howard caught the viewers laughing. All in all, David looks like a real talent. He is someone whom the viewers will keep an eye on. The player has shown his abilities on the opening night. Now, he has to remain consistent for the Hurricanes to go deep into the tournament.
