New Zealand inflicted a dominating victory over Pakistan. They were ruthless in the second Test match. They thus sealed the series 2-0 in their favour, decisively. Pakistan had scored a decent 297 runs in their first innings which was being considered to be a competitive first innings score. However, the individual brilliance of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell won the match for the Kiwis in their first innings itself.
Kane Williamson scored yet another double century (238 off 364). He proved once again that he deserves the no.1 Test ranking. Batsman Henry Nicholls also played a brilliant knock of 157 off 291. Daryl Mitchell scored the first Test century of his career.
To add to that, there was a wonderful incident occurred regarding Mitchell’s century. Kane Williamson delayed declaring the innings by three overs just to ensure that Mitchell scored his first Test century. Williamson was heavily praised by cricket fans all over the globe for this very reason.
The Match Was Always One-Sided; New Zealand The Clear Favourites
Pakistan never looked confident or determined when they came to bat in the second innings. The Pakistani batters got a horrible start. Opener Shan Masood got dismissed for a duck after facing 25 deliveries. That was Kyle Jamieson’s first wicket of the day.
The Kiwi pacer then went on to single-handedly demolish the entire Pakistan batting order. He took the big wickets of Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail and Md Rizwan.
In the 51st over, Kyle Jamieson came in to bowl and he did brilliantly. Md Rizwan and Fawad were playing at that time. On the fifth ball of the over, the Pak skipper faced the Kiwi pacer.
Jamieson’s delivery took a crazy turn after bouncing off the ground and it hit the stumps. The commentators termed the delivery as “banana in-swing”, which was rather unique.
How The Game Was Dominated By The Black Caps?
Pakistan was all out for 186 runs, thus the Black Caps won the match by an innings and 176 runs. New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan in the Test series which showcased their dominance. Having won two consecutive test series (against West Indies and Pakistan respectively), New Zealand has established their dominance in the longest format of the game.
Pakistan cricket team will get back in action on the 26th of January. That is, in their Test series against South Africa. It will also be a two-match series which they want to do better in. After that, both the teams will also play a T20 series, to wrap it all up.
