The COVID-19 virus has still affected the players participating in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite being in a strict bio-bubble. Recent news has revealed that two players from the KKR camp are the recent addition to the list. BBCI confirmed that Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy had tested positive in the third round of the COVID-19 tests in the last four days.
This was the most crucial time of the tournament. It had reached midway through the season. However, the best thing to do for the safety of the players and everyone involved was to just halt the competition back then.
BCCI has confirmed that the virus has not affected the rest of the KKR players
Meanwhile, people have surprised that how this deadly virus is infecting all these players despite being in a strict bio bubble. Kolkata Knight Riders last played the game against Delhi Capitals on April 29. So, now we have to wait and see if any of the Delhi Capitals players have been infected with the virus or not. Varun played in that game against Delhi and has come in contact with the Delhi players during the post-match handshakes.
According to the report from ESPNCricinfo, Varun Chakravarthy stepped out of the bio bubble to go for a scan of his shoulder. So, people are speculating that he has been infected with the virus there. However, the BCCI has not confirmed this yet.
However, BCCI has revealed that the COVID-19 virus has not affected the rest of the KKR players and they have been tested negative. Now, they have to undergo regular testing and the medical team will closely monitor the close contacts of the infected players.
The Latest Update That Came From The BCCI In Their Press Release?
“Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad. The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and is monitoring their health.
“Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine. This was done to identify any other possible cases. Further, to treat them at the earliest. The Medical Team is also determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results.
“The BCCI and the Kolkata Knight Riders prioritise the health and safety of everyone involved. To add to that, all measures are being taken in that endeavour.”
KKR will suffer a huge loss as Varun Chakravarthy has been a vital player for the KKR set-up since the last season. He finished as the leading wicket-taker for KKR in the last season. In this year as well, he was bowling well and picking up wickets for the team. Being a mystery spinner, he adds a lot of value to the team. KKR is already suffering from the losses they have suffered so far. So, Varun Chakravarthy’s absence will have a big effect on their hopes of reaching the playoffs.
