North East United shared one point with FC Goa in the most thrilling encounter of this season’s Indian Super League at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. The game was on high tempo throughout the whole 90 minutes and the viewers would certainly love this kind of encounters. AIFF announced that the top team in the League table after the League phase of this tournament would be given direct entry to AFC Champions League. So, all the clubs are trying hard to reach the number one spot. For that reason, the matches are becoming very much interesting.
FC Goa came into this match after a draw against Bengaluru FC in the previous match with a last-minute penalty converted successfully by Ferran Corominas. On the other hand, North East United came in this match with a win against Odisha FC by a margin of 2-1 in the previous match. Both the sides were eager to take all three points from this encounter.
The head coach of FC Goa, Sergio Lobera made some changes in his starting lineup for this match. Seminlen Doungel and Manvir Singh sat on the bench while Jackichand Singh came to the starting lineup. Both the sides were in attacking mode from the beginning of the match. However, Asamoah Gyan failed to convert two easy chances into Goal in the first half of the match.
At the 31st minute of the match, Brandon Fernandes provided a brilliant through ball towards Hugo Boumous. In the second half, North East United came in the match strongly. At the 54th minute of the match, Asamoah Gyan equalised the scoreline for the home side. Rakesh Pradhan provided the ball towards him and Gyan was able to place the ball perfectly into the goal beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Redeem Tlang was shown a yellow card at the 58th minute of the match for conducting a bad foul. Ferran Corominas’ effort struck the bar and FC Goa missed the opportunity to take the lead again in the match.
Subhasis Roychowdhury was brilliant under the bars for North East United as he made several saves in this match. At the 74th minute, Redeem Tlang scored the second goal for the home side with a brilliant strike from the edge of the penalty box.
At the 77th minute, Sergio Lobera introduced Seminlen Doungel in place of Lenny Rodriguez. Manvir Singh also came in place of Carlos Pena. However, it was not a night to remember for Seminlen Doungel as he was shown a direct red for violent conduct at the injury time of the match.
FC Goa were awarded a free-kick of Manvir Singh’s header went past the Goalkeeper. It was enough for the away side to take one point from this tight encounter.
