ISL Update- ATK went through to the final of the Hero Indian Super League with a brilliant performance in the second leg of the semi-final. Bengaluru FC won the first leg of this tie with a margin of 1-0 at Kanteraava Stadium. ATK were desperate to make a comeback in front of their home supporters.
The manager of ATK, Antonio Habas fielded his side with a usual 3-5-2 formation. Arindam Bhattacharya was there under the bars for the home side. Sumit Rathi, John Johnson and Pritam Kotal were there in the central defence of the home side in this match. Prabir Das and Michael Soosairaj were deployed as two wingbacks. Edu Garcia, Michael Regin and Javi Hernandez were playing in the midfield. The pair of Roy Krishna and David Williams were deployed at the upfront of the field.
Bengaluru FC got the crucial away goal at the 5th minute of the match. Muhammad Ashique Kuruniyan scored the goal for the away side at the 5th minute of the match. After conceding the first goal of the match, ATK needed to score at least three goals to qualify for the Final. It was seeming to be almost impossible at that stage of the game.
Bengaluru FC had not been at their best in this season, but their defensive unit stood solid mostly throughout the whole season. Roy Krishna made the crowd of Salt Lake Stadium believe that their team could come back from these circumstances. Roy Krishna scored the equaliser at the 30th minute of the match. It was a brilliant cross provided by Prabir Das from the right flank. Edu Garcia, Pritam Kotal and Muhammad Ashique Kuruniyan were booked in the first 45 minutes. The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-1 at Salt Lake Stadium.
ATK needed to score two goals. So, they were in the attacking mode from the very beginning of the second half. Deshorn Brown picked up a yellow card and he was subbed off at the 59th minute of the match. At the 63rd minute, David Williams was fouled in the penalty box by Suresh Wanjham. David Williams successfully converted from the spot. After conceding the second goal, the head coach of Bengaluru FC, Carlos Cuadrat brought in Udanta Singh in place of Ashique Kuruniyan. Mandi and Jayesh Rane came in the field for ATK in place of Javi Hernandez and Michael Regin. David Williams scored the third goal of the match at the 79th minute of the match. Prabir Das provided a brilliant cross again from the right flank.
The header of David Williams was well out of reach of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. Bengaluru FC were desperate to score a goal at the dying minutes of the match. Frater missed a golden opportunity to score. He got Arindam Bhattacharya alone in front of the goal. He had all the time in the world to put it in the nets. However, he failed to score a crucial goal. The match ended with a scoreline of 3-1 in favour of ATK at Salt Lake Stadium.
