The Time Paine Story- Tim Paine’s dismissal in Australia’s second innings of the second match between India and Australia has been subject to a lot of controversies lately. In spite of lack of clear evidence, third umpire Gary Wilson ruled Paine out in a caught behind the situation. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Tim Paine’s wicket was the game-changer. That lead to the downfall of the Australian batting line-up and eventually put the match in India’s favour. Australian skipper Tim Paine has therefore opened out on his frustration over his dismissal.
On day three in the 48th over, Tim Paine was facing Ravindra Jadeja. On a certain delivery, it seemed as though Paine had nicked the ball into the keeper’s hands. Due to lack of conclusive evidence, the on-field umpire gave him not out, against which India took a review. The on-screen replays showed no conclusive evidence on the hotspot, but there was a distinct spike visible on the Real-time Snicko sound indicator. Surprisingly, the on-field umpire declared Tim Paine out, giving the bowler a benefit of doubt. Thus decision shocked Tim Paine and the Australian dressing room.
What A Dejected Tim Paine Told The Reporters?
Many fans had called Tim Paine’s wicket as an act of ‘Karma’. India had also lost a wicket in a similar fashion due to a controversial DRS involvement. During that time, Paine was seemingly rejoicing the wicket. However, when the same thing happened to him, he is protesting all out.
”I thought we had a pretty similar example in the first innings with Pujara on … day two which set some precedents. And then you could see the change. Extremely frustrating, no doubt about that. A crucial part of the game. I felt like I have been playing pretty well since the start of this series. And I thought if I could get in a partnership with (Cameron) Green; add another 50, 100, 120 runs together then the whole game changes. To have it finish like that was extremely disappointing.”
In fact, Tim Paine also had a talk with the match officials regarding his dismissal. Strangely, they didn’t have any reasonable explanation as well. Paine opined, “I have spoken to them, it was not very productive. My concern yesterday was not with the technology, it was with the precedents set with Pujara and the fact the (Paine) decision was made too quickly. He (Wilson) did not look at enough replays to see all evidence. There was probably a gap between bat and ball. It was just lots of things that did not marry up for me.”
What Next For Team Australia Ahead Of The Third Test?
